If yes, why. How does this fit into the bible? If animals are only here for us to "use," why do we (some of us at least) feel so bad when they are injured or try to help them? What good does that do God (or us?) (according to theology, btw, I'm a big animal lover)

well according to the book of Jonah., God tells him He has a forgotten amount of horses and cattle and sheep to worry about including all of the people.
I forget the amount of animals, but it is there. Look it up and read the book of Jonah, it is not just about a big fish swallowing a man and throwing him out of his stomach up on the beach. Jonah had a job to do and "God made him do it. Just like us.

The Bible gives us little specific instruction; other than to tell us that we are not to "lay with our asses" ,.
Where you got your indoctrination was at the hands of Walt Disney, and all the Disney cartoons and films you have seen that "humanize" animals .
Get real, dude, animals do not fall in love and go off two by two to live happily ever after!
Animals "feel" only instinctively!
Most animals, deer especially, care less about the female, other than as a reproductive engine, and only when she is available. then he'll screw every doe he can find, and never give it a second thought!
The Bible says, in Genesis, that God gave man "dominion over all the animals", fish, fowl, etc. Ergo, man rules. Man is to use them to meet his needs.

I'm an animal lover, too. The fifth day was my favorite day of creation. God loves animals very much. There are several verses in the bible where God instructs people to take good care of their animals. He also created an astonishing variety of animals; in the sea, on the land, in the air. Beautiful in form and function, they grace our planet. God loves them very much and they make life very wonderful. He also promises us on the new earth, the lion will lay down with the lamb. It will be fulfilling not only to see peace among humans, but peace in the animal kingdom as well.

God is gracious and made tasty steaks for us to savor. You question contains the extensive ASSUMPTION that animals sense soreness like we do. we don't even comprehend what the heck animals are and what they're all approximately. no person's ever been interior and animal's suggestions (in the event that they even have one) so we basically don't comprehend. Animals don't have a soul, meaning that have not have been given a concept of "self" that exists aside from their sensory reports. subsequently the animal might have the experience of feeling A then B then C, yet there is not any separate self that is conscious "I, Marvin the donkey, has basically felt A after which B and now i'm feeling C." So their soreness isn't an evil element, with the aid of fact there is not any clever soul who records the reports as separate events and suffers with the aid of fact of it. A Christian shouldn't take care of animals poorly with the aid of fact we ought to continuously be stable stewards of God's creation and not be unnecessarily unfavourable. comparable as we ought to continuously no longer unload pollution interior the rivers and so on.

Yes GOD dosn't want us to leave an animal in unnessary pain and suffering. . through free will we have to decide weither to try and save the animal for a time or to put it out of its misery.Even at the risk of our own lives.
The old law was not to take more than you needed so that there would be some left for the next time.
This also includes plants . save some seed back for next years planting.
The BOOK of GENESIS and the TORAH plus common sense.

God did create the animals for our pleasure. They are for us to enjoy.

However, an animals life should not be taken more seriously then a human life. Yes, we are to treat animals with the utmost respect but never to the point of caring for them more then humans.

I don't know...all I know is that the majority of animals have not done anything to deserve the horrific treatment they recieve at the hands of humans...a stray walked up to my porch the other day, covered in sores and mange, she has been in my neighborhood for at least a week. I've posted up flyers, put ads in the paper, but I can't find her owners. If this is the best that humanity has to offer...sometimes it sickens me to be human. I really hope that if there is a heaven, that animals go to it...they deserve it more than most of us do.

I assume you're Christian. I'm not, but I am Jewish, spiritual, and a vegetarian because I love animals too. So, I want to answer this question, maybe gain a veggie convert! I couldn't come up with a good answer myself, but a web search yielded this link:

http://www.all-creatures.org/cva/honoring.htm

It's the Christian Vegetarians Association, and the link above is their FAQ's section where they address vegetarianism from a theological, biblically-based standpoint. Hope you enjoy.
