Jesus loves me.
It's theologically sound, it's comforting, it's celebratory. Children can learn it, adults remember it.
Heather Clark is my favourite musician today.
Tomorrow it will be Laura Woodley.

Religious music has ***** spiritual inspiration to thank for being what it is. At least some of the better religious music does (in my opinion). ***** slaves inspired some of the most touching religious music I know.

My most inspirational? One favorite is "Old Man River." I DO believe that it is a very spiritual song, and thus, religious. It's the "scared of dieing" line that speaks to the human desire to have faith but still fear the Reaper.

But I guess my most favorite is "People Get Ready" by the Chambers Brothers. "All you need is faith" is a good line from that song, a song that is about as religious and inspirational as it gets.

Of course everyone knows and loves Amazing Grace so I suppose technically it is the most insperational but the one that has encouraged me to grow is Here I am Lord.

I have a bunch of favorite modern musicians. Ginny Owens, Todd Agnew, Third Day, Skillet, AudioAdreneline, Newsboys, dcTalk, TobyMac... Basicly find an AirOne station in your area and tune in.

Petra's song "Creed" is amazing and just simply says it all. And rocks HARD doing it!

Unfortunately, Petra just 'retired' after 33 years and the Christian music scene could sure use some real talent.

Michael W. Smith is an awesome composer and song writer, but his voice really bugs me...ugh. If he'd just play the music and not sing! His original version of "Agnus Dei" from album "Go West Young Man" is PHENOMENAL and must be heard. Sounds like what angels in heaven are probably singing right now.

Holy Holy Holy is the Lord God Almighty,
Who Was
And Is
And Is To Come.

I love Mercy Me, Casting Crowns, Jeremy Camp, and FFH. I have many favorite songs. I like "I Can Only Imagine" a lot. I also still love the many versions of "How Great Thou Art". The "Voice of Truth" by Casting Crowns is my favorite right now.

You should do a YA! search on "greatest hymn or worship song" as the question has been previously asked.

As for the second part, I dig:

Casting Crowns
Michael W. Smith
The Newsboys

The most inspirational hymn for me would be "Amazing Grace" - for a praise song it would be "Shout to the Lord". My current favorite religious band is Apologetix.

Amazing Grace is one the the most inspirational...for the old songs. I Can Only Imagine and Your Love Oh Lord for the newer contemporary music.

For today...

Third Day (Love that rock sound) Everything they sing is anointed...and they are humble about it. Awesome musicians! Everything they do, they do for the Glory of God / Jesus and His Kingdom...

Casting Crowns (Their Lifesong CD is simply amazing!)

Mercy Me (Again...Humble and only want to Glorify God / Jesus!)

...and many, many more

The one that really lifts my heart is "Angus Dei" by Michael W. Smith. I take my Ipod outside with that song on, look at a full moon in the night sky, and praise and exalt God. That's as close to heaven as I can get being earth bound!

Not much into the religious type music, I'm more of a hard rock listener, but Casting Crowns had that rock sound to them, I like em.
