Islam teaches that it is not one’s birth, but good deeds and faith that determine one’s nobility. The Islamic slogan "One God for one mankind" aims at eliminating all the narrow views, like communalism, casteism, racism etc. Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) declared in plain words that "He who invites to communalism, fights and dies for communalism, not belong to us"

Dear Sister,
It depends on what you call communalism. If you mean prejudice based on race or religion or understanding of the spiritual dimensions in which we all differ between each other and even within our own lives we live at different spiritual stations, then you are correct that communalism is wrong.

However, there is a directive time and again for the good to form deep relationships across all divides to establish peace and to strengthen goodness itself.

In my view a true Muslim knows that his Allah made everyone!! When someone recites Allahu Akbar or God is the Greatest, how can one then question who Allah makes or sustains.

A true Muslim will accept the differences that are allowed by Allah. A true Muslim in my view will not force his views on others, when the verse in the Quran (10:99) clearly says "If Allah Willed, all nations would be Muslim. Will you THEN use FORCE?" (my caps).

Thus you are right that a Muslim can not be communal. A Muslim can work to build bridges. The Beauty of Monotheism is we are all focussing on the PRIME ARTIST who made all the Artwork around us. How can a lover of Rembrandt destroy his paintings or create havoc in the Museum of Rembrandt which displays his paintings?

Thanks for asking the question. May the Lord Almighty bless you for being a peace maker. Ameen.

Could a Muslim ever be a noble specimen of the human aristocracy even when the days don’t present itself of its highest splendor? Could a Muslim ever be a finished gentleman, a brave soldier, and a skillful diplomatist? Could A Muslim ever display courteous and insinuating manners, display vivacity with gravity of equanimity? Could a Muslim ever become a favorite amongst the tempers of men that are as dissimilar as their features?

They push forth to become intimate with the Shaker. They caress the Adventist. They dazzle the multitude by their magnificent style of living. The prejudices which the people of those outside their race, their religion had conceived against the character that they are, the vindictive feelings generated during centuries of national rivalry, gradually yielded to their state of existence; while the regime, everything they live for produces a surly, pompous, ********* man, making themselves and there country more and more unpopular every day.

Could a Muslim ever be a Muslim?

paaatches --Whether the old or the new vice be the worse, whether those who formerly lavished insincere praise on others, or those who now contrive by every art of beggary and bribery to stun the public with praises of themselves, disgrace their vocation the more deeply, we shall not attempt to decide.
