Etiquette - February 2007

[Selected]: All categories Society & Culture Etiquette

We recently had a baby. Friends and family have overwhlemed us with support and generosity (e.g. food, gifts, support, time, etc.). At this most important, life-chanding, yet stressful time in our lives, we are totally overwhelmed by this outpouring of generosity. What is the etiquette for responding appropriately? Specifically, there are some people who went above and beyond what we could ever do, and this leaves us feeling guilty and confused about how to reciprocate.

I have a coworker who will get to know the manager just because of his position. It has nothing to know with character. To me, the present GM is only only I consider worth knowing, she's on the managers like white on rice. She is devoid of pride.
There is a manager, under the GM, whom I have known since '95 and don't even know his middle name. Here this woman is knowing that another manager was born the day she finished hgih school. He's the age of her first born as well.
Maybe I should check to see if a manager has anniversary of my graduation which is 19th annversary of RFK's assasin: 6/5/87.
The woman even has privy to the privy to the price of lettuce; she is in my position.
She sits with the managers in the dining room and in the office. I state my business and go.

I've been on a couple of dates with this guy the last week. He seems to be a whole lot interested in physical stuff. A couple of days ago, he asked me if I wanted to be his girl. And I think I do, because I like him, we have a good time when we're together. But he doesn't show it much, that he's into me. When it comes to physical stuff, then he's caring and sweet, but apart from that, he's not very romantic or showing much emotions. I've told him how I feel, but he says he really likes me. But I'm afraid he might be just a player. We text eachother several times a day. But when I show that I'm interested, he pulls back, and tries to play cool. That annoys me. I'm starting to think I should just stay away and see what happens. I don't want to grow too attached to him, and then he might turn me down. I don't want to keep nagging about it either. I just don't know what to do. I just feel he's not really interested, not as much as I am. Should I just back off for a while?

Is it like a natural human thing that is nothing to worry about, or does it mean theres a problem somewhere?
I adore this bloke I'm with he's perfect and wonderful and so you know, I love the guy. But theres this friend who for some reason I just want to launch myself onto him, not a relationship or anything, just pure lust. Why?

Obviously I'm not going to do anything, I've just invented new games with my boyfriend and I'm avoiding this other guy. I'm just wondering.

Bear with me.... I'm asking this question from Florida, USA, so if I seem behind just know we do not have this tradition here in America!!! ; )
My question is regarding an authentic British "High Tea", I've heard of it a lot, however I do not know exactly what it entitles or what the typical High Tea would be like.
I would be very grateful to anyone who can explain this UK tradition to me..... it sounds wonderful and would love to try it one day.......

Thank you to all!

I am a 21 year old guy and my cousin Alexandria is 19 and we have been going to a clothing optional beach for a month now on the weekends. I go completely naked while she wears a bikini. I am ok being nude in front of her and she has no issues with it either. I have gotten an 3.8 inch erection a few times lying on the beach towel with her but she hasnt said anything. First off, is this ok to be doing with a cousin? Both our families are liberal when it comes to nudity. Also, we are more friends than cousins. So I look at her as a friend. If I am out of line, let me know

I'm not talking about a stage whisper. I mean in places where you're supposed to be quiet (library, movie theater, when somebody is obviously trying to tell you something privately). And before anyone tries to say it's a "black thing", I just want to mention that it appears to be a global "thing." Have you noticed this too?

My Bass is bothering my neighbor (I'm in the basement and he is above me). He came down once and used some expletives describing the noise. Now he bangs on the floor loudly (he has hardwood floors and we are in an old house). I don't really care about the bass, which seems to be the most penetrating. Watching a movie I want to hear the words which means I have to have the volume up on a certain level. When explosions etc.. go off it effects the Bass too much. What can I do? I don't want to start a conflict with anyone but I want to enjoy normal things like watching a movie without being yelled at.

For example, you get a phone call, and the person on the other end says something you cannot understand, except for the name of the company- which lets you know they're calling from, say, your phone company. However the accent is so thick, you can't understand anything else. Or, you call any customer service line, or tech support, etc, and get the same thing- how does one ask for someone one can understand without being rude or offensive?

My DH does this, and will also voice them aloud, either to our kids, or his kids, or to himself in front of them. I have specifically asked him just the other day to stop doing this (saying the things to the kids, I mean) and he responded "Thanks for your input." I haven't heard him say anything like it to the kids since (but it's only been a day) but he's still sniping and muttering under his breath all the time.
