it is simple. turn the fork upside down with your thumb facing towards you and wrapped underneath and fingers wrapped around the handle on the opposite side. put the fork into the food and cut behind it (not through it or in front of it) the knife holds the food down as you cut and when the cut is finished you come away with a complete bite of food and then eat the bite with the fork still upside down.

It differs if you're in America or Britain, but here goes. Let's say you're in America and you're right-handed. You hold the fork in your left hand and use it to steady the food (tines curved down). You cut the food with the knife in your right hand. Then you switch hands to bring the food to your mouth with the fork, tines curved up. Cut just one piece at a time. In Europe, they cut the food with the knife in their weak hand so they don't have to switch.

Try this at home with pizza first, or some other food you're comfortable with. It's easier with a sharper knife at first.

I don't know about DVD's, but a number of etiquette books explain how to do this. You should browse through them at one of the bigger bookstores first, to see that it has what you want.

Good for you! It's great that you're trying to improve yourself. I had a friend who for years only ate hamburgers because he didn't even know how to use a fork right, so you're already ahead of where he started.

Once you get it, I hope you try steak in a restaurant! Yum yum!

I only use a knife on steak or if I need it, the fork works fine on most foods. (I've got manners but I'm not a fenatic when it comes to them or dining out.)
