Hi,

We recently gave all of our employees their yearly Christmas bonuses. As in years past, they are given in cash and they are responsible for the taxes. Suddenly this year they had a massive witchfest (when we were out of the office) about having to pay taxes on their bonus. Including our office manager, who sent us a rude and snide email about it. We responded with that would be the end of the Christmas bonuses and writing up the manager for gross insubordination for his snide email.

Now there are bad feelings all around. We are hurt because we did this out of good faith and to thank our employees. It is the same as it has been every year but they decided this wasn't enough. I don't even know of many places (and these are young kids, not career people) that give them anymore. They are upset with us for having to pay taxes on their income. How do we resolve this situation? I don't have exactly the warm fuzzies about it. Christmas bonus used to be my favorite day.

I was raised in an Eastern European country, and etiquette rules there state that it is only appropriate to go to your seat (in a theater or movies) facing people that are already in their seats.
When I came to the US for my college, I noticed that in America it is OK to pass to your seats by turning your back to people. I am wondering, is this considered the right way or there are no strict rules about it? 'Cause sometimes I still do it by facing people (old habits are hard to knock off!), and I wonder whether Americans think it is rude?

An evil tart keeps nudging and poking me whilst I'm trying to do work on assignments. Should I respond with violence, reasoning or shine a powerful torch in her face and make my escape?

We all get them, you know the crappy unthoughtful gifts that looks like it came from a petrol station or jumble sale. Is it right to tell people their gift was crap?

This summer I worked at Taco Bell for about a month, and the ENTIRE time I was treated like ultimate sh*t. Yea, there was the occasional rude customer (I was a cashier), but working with those people were unbearable! This girl used to blame me for EVERYTHING. And then I got yelled at for the dumbest things! For instance, I was working at night and we had a big crowd, but my manager's manager called the shift manager and told her to tell me to "stop looking so stupid" (WTF?), and then he told her to tell me to "mop the floors". How the hell was I supposed to mop the floors when we had customers to the door? And the floors weren't even dirty! When the customers were finally gone, I started mopping, but I got yelled at because a new customer just walked in (wasn't even at the cashier). And the bathrooms started flooding, and I got yelled at for not doing this or not. ARGH, it was so stressful.

So what in the world is wrong with the people there?! Why are they so ANAL and UNHAPPY?

My birthday is 2 days before Christmas and generally I get separate gifts . Once in awhile I will get a gift that is labelled as a combined Birthday/Christmas gift. I personally dont care if my gift is combined. What I want to know is ....Do YOU think this is fair? How would you feel if it happened to you?

If I am having trouble finding a job and no one is calling me for an interview, do I be proactive and call these people or just wait for a reply back? I've submitted my resume on Friday and its now Tuesday. But, considering being the holidays I would think they need people. Is it wrong to call and would that be bothersome? How do I not sound demanding on calling the employer and asking about whether I can be considered? Or do I just wait?
