We all get them, you know the crappy unthoughtful gifts that looks like it came from a petrol station or jumble sale. Is it right to tell people their gift was crap?

No, it's not right. At least they remembered you, even though there was obviously no thought put into the gift. Just remember that next year and don't buy that person a gift.

I already have told my monster in law, she bought my teen some bratz bubble bath and cr@p makeup
first she is to old for bratz and second she has a rare form of eczema which means she couldn't use the stuff she sent anyway!!!
She does this stunt every year because my daughter is not her flesh and blood, so we have sent it back along with the gifts she got for the boys (who are her real grandchildren as she like to put it) and a very stern warning from my hubby that enough is enough and as far as he is concerned he is the only dad my girl has got so she will have to like it or loose all of them!!

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, but having said that, I think you can of course get your 'revenge' buy doing exactly the same to them.

No, I think your better off keeping quiet and accepting the gift with the good grace its been given with, you could always recycle their gift back to them for their birthday.

I think a little white lie can save the day. Not everyone has alot of money to spend and not everybody likes shopping. I remember a succession of jumpers my gran used to knit for me. No way would i have wished to upset her, so I wore them whilst she was with us and told her I loved them. Happy Christmas.

It is unnecessary to express every single thought we have. Sometimes the best response to an unwanted gift is a polite "thank you".

Of coarse it is, or you'll get the same crap next year. However, do it to shame them. Tell them that they obviously don't know you and that they can't care about you if they are so insensitive as to get you an inappropriate gift.

Yes, but said tactfully. If you don't tell them, you will probably get a poo present every year and they will never realise how unhappy they are making you. They must realise it is a poo present, so just tell them straight. As an alternative, get them a poo present as well, they may get the message..
