You don't say what your budget is and that's a big factor.

But let me make a couple suggestions.

If you live in a large city, consider giving her tickets to touring company of a Broadway play or musical, orchestra seating. There are matinee performances if she is not one for going out at night.

She might also appreciate a day of pampering, so get her a gift certificate for a Day Spa. Make sure its a higher end one, and not something in a supermarket strip mall.

Never give your mom money or a gift certificate to a local store. She would rather get a bad gift than a gift that shows you could not be bothered to spend time thinking about the gift. NEVER!

Buy her beautiful flowers and when she opens the card there should be a gift card inside. that way she will have fun shopping and spending someone elses $. This way she also gets a gift.

My mother is the same way. Either that or she wants something that I totally can't afford.

Over the passed year, I recalled hearing her say, I wish you guys were kids again. So I paid to have a picture of me and my brother blown up, and purchased a nice frame.

When she is visiting my sister, I will go to her house clean it up for her and put the picture on the wall. SHe will be surprised, because I know she thinks I don't listen to her when she talks.

A gift card. If she loves to do her own shopping, give her the gift of taking time to do what she loves.

Give her a nice card that you have written inside:
Mom,
since you get yourself what you want, when you want...
can I go shopping with you one day and buy you something.
You mean the world to me
Love______________
How's that!!
