Recently a professor has given me an immense amount of help on a project just because she is nice. I would like to give her a gift to express my appreciation. Could you help me choose an appropriate gift? (Don't worry; I'm not trying to buy a grade. In fact, I'm not even enrolled in a class of hers right now.)

She's a relatively young woman. As I recall, she doesn't like chocolate all that much, and she feels that she's not good at taking care of plants. Any suggestions?

Has this ever happend to you? You find yourself wondering if you should say hi and start a conversation. While you mull this over, you find yourself staring at the wall, looking at your feet, fiddling with your purse (or what ever you have in your hands). Before you know it, you have reached your floor and your are thankful that you were able to get out of there! I was wondering if anyone else does these same things? If you don't, what do you do??

It just seems pointless to ask people questions about themselves and respond to questions about myself when I probably will never meet that person again in my lifetime. What am I missing? I do not want to seem rude, but quiet is nice; to me, anyway. I was told I appear aloof. I have a good time, but I am just not chatty.

After I was offered the position, I was told about the rate of pay and was not too happy about that. I cannot afford to make anything less than what I am making right now... Without being rude, what is the best way to turn down the position?

I am strapped for cash my own self and am still trying to pay off the debt I made last Xmas season. Is it wrong of me to tell my family please not to buy me gifts and that I won't be giving gifts. What do you think?

does anyone else get those annoying calls where they use a computer to test dial your number first to see if anyone is at home? Also i find those calls where they call you up and a recording tells you to wait on the line a real pain in the a**. I don't have time to wait for people who called me to answer the phone - i think it's kind of rude.

If you cancel a date because you are ill, should you automatically sort out the next date or suggest that the other persons arranges it again? Is there any hard and fast rule?

Choices:
San Francisco (Trust me I lived in the Bay Area for 15 years! These people are as smug and arrogant as they come)
New York City (Naturally due to the heavy east coast bias in the media and the city's influence over the country)
Boston
Chicago
Los Angeles (the only reason they're listed is because of jackass celebrities who never shutup!!!)

(It's up for sale) and after the realtor and her clients left, I went through my rooms to turn out the lights. I went into the bathroom and found my medicine cabinet left wide open. What gives people the right to invade our personal privacy? What were they to learn about the house by looking in my medicine cabinet? Should I say something to the realtor?

... my parents were once immigrants, but they made the effort in learning to speak English. But why people that have lived here for years, dont even try to learn the language??? Why do we spoil/ accomodate them. If a Latino/Hispanic where to migrate to China, Japan, or even Kuwait- they wouldn't bother to translate stuff in Spanish for them. I do understand people migrate to the U.S. for a better life. But I still dont understand how most of the Latino community, start to have a boat load of kids. And take advantage of the state (ex: Medicaid, Welfare). I'm not trying to sound racist. Does anyone understand where I'm coming from?

Lately I have been aware that I interrupt more often than I ever though I did in conversation. I am the baby in age in both offices that I work at, and I fear it makes me more immature than I am already. Does anyone have some tips for me to stop this annoying/selfish habit?

BTW, I took two friends with me on the date. Basically, I met him at a bar and I told him beforehand that I would be bringing some friends because I had another party to go to afterwards. He seemed fine with it and even said he thought it was smart of me to do that since I only met him for 5 minutes before going on this "first date." I really liked him and want to see him again but one-on-one this time with no "friends" to bring along. Did I scare him away? He did text me to say he had a good time and that he wanted to do it again, after I sent him a text on satruday night to thank him for getting drinks. How long should I wait before I call him or should I not call him at all? Help please.

While doing my laundry in my apt building, one of my neighbors accidentally bleached some of my clothes. I must have come down right after it happened. She had dumped my clothes on top of another washer (btw there were other washers and laundry carts available) and was still fixing her laundry. She said she didn’t realize my clothes were still in the washing machine and put her sheets in. Then she told me she put bleach in there but there was only a sock in there at the time and showed me the sock. Luckily it was a mostly white load and when I examined my wet clothes, it didn’t seem like anything was wrong. I took the sock w bleach, threw it away and put my stuff in the dryer. Later, after taking my clothes upstairs, I realized my boyfriend’s khakis and my tank top must have gotten bleach on them bc they had white splotches. I don’t care ab my tank top but my boyfriend is upset ab his pants. What should I do? Should I ask her to pay for my boyfriend’s pants or let it slide?
