A conservative, dark suit and tie. Carry two handkerchiefs, one in your breast pocket for you and one in your pants pocket for a lady to use. Bring a card of condolence to leave on the wood pedestal near the casket. Remember to sign the guest book.

A nice buttoned up shirt with/without sleeves, nice black slacks,
dress shoes, dress socks. Make sure your shirt is tucked in your
slacks. Dark color or depending on the family. When my father
passed away my nephews all wore sky blue shirts and black slacks. We girls all wore beige and black to celebrate his new
life. Other family member still have that same tradition wearing
all black.

Wear black, dark blue or dark brown in conservatively cut clothing. Bring something to eat or some flowers, and leave it for the family.

I would just dress in something smart like a suit and shirt. As long as you are dressed respectfully it shouldnt matter. I wouldnt turn up in jeans and a t shirt.

dress properly. you know the family and don't want to appear arrogant or unconcerned. if they are a suit and tie family - then a suit and tie. if they are more laid back - dress accordingly. if you knew he was a great fisherman and he always loved a particular item you had - wear that.

Thats one of the things wrong with our society. All you are worried about is what others are going to think about you. Guess what ITS NOT ABOUT YOU!!!!! By the way basic black or gray will do.
