There is not a hard and fast rule.
Yes, it's a possibility that she was using the flu as an excuse not to go out with you.
However, I wouldn't necessarily expect her to suggest another day for a date, because she doesn't know exactly how long she'll be sick.
Perhaps if it's been a few weeks (after which time she'll have gotten over her illness) you could ask her out again, assuming you were the one who originally asked her out.

There's no real hard and fast rule i don't think.
It would seem to me that the person who cancels the date because they are ill, should tell the other person that they will phone them to arrange the next date when they are feeling better.
If you know this excuse to be genuine and you know where they live, then why not pay them a visit and take them some flowers, chocs, grapes, magazines, bottle of lucozade or whatever.
Mind you, if this was to be a first date, then i doubt if they would want you to see them when they're not looking their best. But even if they don't want you to actually see them, drop a little pressie round anyway.....they'll be really touched by your thoughtfulness.
I've assumed here that you are not the one that is ill.....but i could be wrong.

forget the rules. If this is a first date, she may feel a little forward in arranging it again anyway. Its simple, if you like her, call her up, see how she is, and ask her when she might make the next one. Don't play games, or play by the 'rules', its just silly, and you won't ever get what u want. Good luck.

Yeah you should arrange the next date this way the person does not think that you are faking the illness and they know you are serious about dating them.

You should probably make the next date, because you were the one to cancel it in the first place. It would be a little unfair to make the other person re-do the date.

The person that cancelled should sort out the next date. That way it shows that they are interested and not just making up an excuse.

I think that what ever the reason, if you cancel a date, you have the responsibility to reschedule the date unless the other person decides to take that responsibility on.

You should be the one to arrange the next date. That would be the polite thing to do.

I don't know if there are any rules set in stone, but since you are the one who canceled personally if I were you, I would suggest another day that would work. It is a nice gesture.

Why not ask a good date when you cancel so she knows you are not blowing her off? That way, you can both have input. You can tell her you would rather cancel the date than make her sick because you care so much. You know girls and mushy stuff. :)
