I would politely ask if she could at least contribute to the cost of replacing them. It is her fault (unless she's legally blind). You might also ask how she would feel or what she would expect if the roles were reversed.

Firstly, I agree with a previous answerer that you should've stayed with your laundry. It's really a bit inconsiderate to leave it for any reason....and it could've easily been taken, too.
Secondly, unless the laundry room is in total darkness how could she possibly have not seen something as large as a pair of trousers as well as the other things?? And, what did she do??....did she add the bleach and then take out your things? Did she miraculously see your things under her sheets after she added the bleach?? It's all very curious, don't you think..especially if, as you say, there were other machines AND carts available? Sounds as though, if I'm reading this correctly, it was intentional. If it was, I don't think I would aggravate her any further! My advice is to take it as a somewhat expensive lesson....buy your guy another pair of pants...avoid the neighbor (but be nice) and NEVER leave your laundry unattended again.

Just let it go. Next time stay with your laundry. Buy your boyfriend a new pair of pants. And chalk it up to experience. It's not worth fighting with your neighbor or making her feel bad. It's not like someone ran into your car or something big. It's a pair of pants and a tank top.

Just ask her to help pay for the pants. If she's a b**ch about it, let it go. BTW, I leave my clothes ALL THE TIME. I have a gazillion other things to do than babysit my clothes. But we only have 4 units total in this building, and we all treat each others things respectfully. Good luck. She probably feels bad & would like to help you out.

Honestly, now I mean, honestly...
Would you pay if the situation was reversed?
Probably not.
As rude and utterly bitchy it was of her to not even look and then having the audacity to put your clothes ontop of another dryer as it was, let it slide. She sounds like a neighbor who would attempt to make your life a living hell.
So stay with your clothes or slap a bright colored post-it on your washer and dryers next time.

The real question is, why did you not stay with your laundry? If you left your laundry in the washer and she did not realize it was there, then it is your fault for leaving it in the washer. She cannot be expected to pay for your carelessness.

Yes, it is her responsibility to pay or compensate you for your clothes. If she got bleach on the items, then she needs to pay up.

Do you think she would pay for them? If so, ask her to. If you think she would do some harm to more of your clothes, let it go.

I'm on the side of letting it slide.
It was an honest mistake.
