(It's up for sale) and after the realtor and her clients left, I went through my rooms to turn out the lights. I went into the bathroom and found my medicine cabinet left wide open. What gives people the right to invade our personal privacy? What were they to learn about the house by looking in my medicine cabinet? Should I say something to the realtor?

I'm reasonable and understand the need to check out closet space etc. but you you can pretty much tell the amount of space inside a medicine cabinet without having to open it.

Definitely say something. Not to scare you, but when the realtor was showing our old house... I had a bad feeling about the family that was leaving as I was arriving. I sensed that they were casing my home. Sure enough later that night when I got home the side door was open and the alarm had been triggered. Interestingly enough, the realtor told me that he forgot to mention the alarm system to these people. LOL. The police were able to get them for a b&e. Be safe! Don't leave things out that people can snoop through and let your realtor know that if they cannot protect your privacy, you may need to find another realtor! Be tough! Good Luck!!!

yes you should. But it still will not stop them from going through the house as they want. People open fridge and cabinets they just forgot to shut your medicine cabinet door and that's how you knew. The Realtor doesn't stay in every room with the people because they like to give the clients time to chat alone. But it still might make you feel better that you got it off your mind. Sometimes just saying how you feel can release the anxiety over things. Good luck with selling your house.

I've sold a couple of houses, and I clean anything private out of the medicine cabinet first, and move it to dresser drawers (which aren't up for sale). I guess I think of medicine cabinet space like closet space, and I expect the people would want to see that the shelves are clean and in good condition, and that the cabinet doors work properly. If I were looking at a house, I'd check it. (I wouldn't be nosing around at the contents - I do respect people's privacy, but I would check the cabinet itself out to make sure it's in good condition.)

I understand your discomfort, but I'd just move prescriptions, etc into a dresser drawer for now.

I do not think they were trying to be nosy about the contents of your medicine cabinet, but rather they wanted to check the physical condition of the cabinet. I would. Perhaps they wanted to make sure the door was working properly or that the shelves were not broken or missing. If it comes with the sale of the house, I believe they have a right to inspect it. Good luck with your sale.

Definitely say something about it to the realtor. Yes people are coming to look at your house, but no, they are not coming to look through your medicine cabinet. People are nosy, and some people haven't learned to control that urge. Also, I would advise putting away anything you don't want seen, just in case.

Best Regards (and good luck!)

Yes, you should say something. Most people know what a medicine cabinet looks like inside, so this would be out of line. It's like going through your dresser.

By all means YES ! It was rude.Try putting some marbles in a plastic bag (loosely so when you shut the door they will fall out of the bag ) and listen for the next person to do this. They WILL BE MORTIFIED at the loud noise it makes and perhaps think twice about doing it again. If nothing else you'll get a good laugh !

I think you should say something. The realtor should keep a better eye on the strangers s/he allows into your house.

I wouldn't be accusatory about it or anything. Just let the realtor know what happened.

yes say somthing to the realtor.Often stuff will get stolen from a house.Even during an open house..I ahve bought and sold a lot of houses.I have learned that generally speaking ,realtors are not the most responsible or conscientious bunch so I take responsibility to leave nothing valuable or embarassing around.

I understand that medicine that is not locked down that is in a house for sale can go missing. It is not an unusual occurance. I recommend that you protect your personal property, like medine, jewlery, by getting it out of the house before any open houses or showings.
