Senior Citizens

I work at an independent living facilty with seniors age 65+. I am the activities director and I am trying to think of ideas to start up a group or club that meets about twice a month. I came up with a name of "Silver Angels." I would like the group to do small deeds for the community but at a low cost. We are a non-profit organization so I am trying to stay within a small budget. If anyone has any suggestions as to what the "Silver Angels" mission should be, please leave me a comment. I'm trying to start up a new group and I'm just not sure about how to go about it. Thanks to anyone who reads and posts a comment. Have a great day!

A home health aide on the sofa with her 90 year old male patient, and she's making out with him?
A lady I know saw this a few days ago. What do you think she should have done about it?

Shouldn't we be enjoying ourselves and start work at the age of 60?

women in pitictular, i go to the school each day hair hardly brushed, no make up, and sometimes t shirt found on the floor fron night before, and im amazed haw many seniors look as if they,ve just had a makeover, i know i used to think that it was because they had more time on their hands, but the ones ive spoken to are all full time babysitters to their grandchildren, so they have their hands full, i would like to think that i would look like that ...all glam.... but i know i wont. so is it that they allways took pride in their appearance or do older women make more of an effort, do you

Do you wash tins of food before you open them?
I do. If you think about it, when you take the lid off it most times falls in the food.
Just where has that lid been? Sat on a dusty shelf in the store, sometimes near the floor.
How many times have other shoppers picked it up to read the label? Did they wash their hand the last ime they visited the loo/john/dunny?
How many people have sneezed on it? Germs travel a long way from a sneeze.
Hope that has given you all something to think about while I go out for the rest of the day. lol x

I mean the things you buy when you go shopping that you think are a good idea, but when you get them home you don't use them very often.
A wallpaper steamer ( not ready to decorate yet)
Coffee Perculator( so much easier to take the lid of a jar)
Sandwich toaster(just as well use the grill)
Pedometer( to see just how far I walk in circles each day but still haven't bought a battery for it)
Luxury bubble bath creme( don't like the smell)

The list goes on......... what can you add to the list?

btw. Until I put senior citizens in the main question it wouldn't post again. Is this why the page is so empty I wonder?

My Aunt is 85, and has macular degeneration in both eyes, so she can't see very well ! She can no longer drive, and cannot read, and can barely write. She is living alone about a hour away, and has no one to help her. My mom and I go visit each month or 2, and take her shopping, and do work around her house. She has had one injury, going down her back stairs, and I am afraid she may have another one. She has lived there all her life, never married or had kids. Since my grandmother died, she has been alone. Her house is a mess, she doesnt have good hygine. Doesnt, take baths very often, and never brushes her teeth. She cooks on a stove that is 70 years old, and gets hot. The house is falling apart. ceiling peeling off.

She is very old fashioned, and set in her ways, not to mention stubborn! How can we convince her to move in our city, in a retirement home, or assisted living. Or is it even right to try. Should we leave her there to live the rest of her days, like she seems to want?

Do not go gentle into that good night
by Dylan Thomas

Do not go gentle into that good night,

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,

Because their words had forked no lightning they

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright

Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,

And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight

Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,

Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Should senior citizens be enjoying their retirement with other fun filled activities but instead piiiiiiss away their life saving at games of chance? I was once at the MGM Grand in Detroit and I was amazed at how many of them were there. People being wheeled in wheel chairs, some even had oxygen tanks attached to them, all gambling away.

"Ask your doctor" in the direction section of the labeling for prescription medications. Do you find your doctor informative? Does he/she take the time to answer your questions and make sure that you understand? Do you get tired of having to go to a doctor for each part of your body? General practitioners are becoming rare these days.

do not have enough time?

I noticed that people a long time ago had time to be courteous, helpful, well-mannered, and dress clean and neat, regardless of social status. To enjoy those, lazy, hazy days of summer. Why do we have to rush through life? Why is everything so fast pace? What happened?
