do not have enough time?

I noticed that people a long time ago had time to be courteous, helpful, well-mannered, and dress clean and neat, regardless of social status. To enjoy those, lazy, hazy days of summer. Why do we have to rush through life? Why is everything so fast pace? What happened?

Unfortunately, time is going faster and we as a society have gotten lazier and less respectful. we need to take the time to be courteous etc. and enjoy life to the fullest because each day we get up could be our last on earth. I hate fast paced too and I think that is what causes all the depression etc. in people. I long for the days of long ago when a person could sit outside for hours, watching the birds in the trees and the lazy, fluffy clouds float in the sky-yes, I still remember days like that. That is probably what keeps me going in this dog eat dog world now-thinking about that! LOL

It all depends how much you want to "buy into" the fast paced society to begin with. I never did. And I never provided name brand clothes or toys for my kids, so they never grew up expecting to be part of that fast paced society either.

Instead, we would lay out on the grass, and watch those clouds pass overhead and pick out creatures and features and make up stories about why they were chasing each other. And even though my kids now have to earn the money that keeps the roof over our heads and puts food on the table, I still get to do those things with their kids--my three grandsons.

I enjoyed the lazy, hazy days of summer when I was a child. I enjoyed them when my children were children. And I still enjoy them now that my grandchildren are children.

All it takes is the right attitude, and the conviction that you will not sell out your own principles.

I think you idealize the good old times. If you were to live like that you would cry your soul off. Imagine, no running water, no central heating, NO TV, no washing machine, no electrical light, no microwave etc. If you still think this is no handicap you can still join the Amish people. If you think they have lots of time you are in for a big disappointment. One can still have all the modern conveniences and still be courteous, helpful, mannered and clean. It is a matter of own choice. Start by setting an example. Maybe others will follow. It is easier to talk the talking than walk the walking.

Because we have all these modern conveniences (hence taking less time to do stuff), we cram more stuff in our days to do...

And just look at all the peer pressure we are under now, when you see things 'just so' on the television and the Internet...and then we start judging ourselves as not 'quite up to par' because we have not accomplished what the advertisers want us to believe we should have done.

Also, if you are looking at the average modern woman, not only is she expected to cook and clean like Martha Stewart and take care of the children (who have been jammed up with an equally busy schedule), BUT also earn a paycheck/contribute monetarily to the household and be a sex siren in bed....

I am tired just thinking about it all!

Americans work harder than most other western societies....less time off and we don't even live as long as europeans where they take frequent vacations. America should learn to stop and smell the roses. I know some young college people today who are hoping to get a good enough profession where they can work less and still make good money. The American people have less family time than Europeans.

I think we have allowed the ratcheteers to fill every available
space with busy work things to do. Even the poor kids go
to school year round, and Goodness knows they are not brighter than we were. But we elimintated something that they
truly needed. Time spent with Grandma and Grandpa..
Continual movement is not progress. We just think it is.

Because people's line if thinking is what they want now they should have now. Technology provides that to them and there are many people who unfortunately can't wait an extra 5 minutes for hot fresh food. They can't wait an extra 2 minutes for one person to help them when there maybe a more experienced person who can do it in 30 seconds.

Technology may have improved greatly, but there is so much that has gone down hill, in my opinion.

You don't have to rush through life it's your choice. Turn off the TV, cancel the cell phone and computer, read a book. Sit out in your yard in the evening and have a lemonade.

We have very different expectations of life now, a much higher standard of living, and that costs lots of money..making money takes a lot of time, ... to enjoy the standard of living takes time...so we run around like ants on a hill, making money, spending money, and never taking time to enjoy what we have...strange, isn't it?

technology, and a higher cost of living.including inflation and higher taxes. my parents had 3 children and dad was the breadwinner. he made enough money to pay the bills and mom could stay home and raise us kids. they were fortunate enough to live in a time when there were wages enough to do so. now we have to have both people work in order to pay their bills.
