Ask your wife, silly.
Maybe it's traditional or taboo. If there is no real reason, maybe she will get used to it. Apparently circumcision wasn't an issue - gotta look on the bright side!!!

I would think it is more related to men in some cultures not having a lot of facial hair and their women have come to see this as normal.
I grew a beard 2 years ago. My wife really doesn't like it but will accept it if I keep in trimmed fairly short. Her complaint is it makes me look old. Well, I'm not really a kid anymore but its not all gray either. I just have hated to shave for many years and when on the Police dept. I had to be clean shaven.
Shaving was cool when I was 12-13 but got pretty lame after I was 20. Guess I'm rebelling at an older age.
I'd try a compromise if you both feel that strongly about it. I would be considered a " Dog Face" by some Native American standards but that term has not been used for about 125 years.

I'm a Philippine-American born in the Philippines. This was the first time I've heard that Filipinas don't like bearded men. They may object if you your beard is unkept and scraggily. But then any woman would. An interesting belief once existed in the Philippines however which I remembered when I was a toddler, was that it was widely regarded that all bearded men were called "Bombays", after the Indian and Sikh residences of the country who all were bearded by culture and tradition. Of course stereo typing was rampant in that country even to this day. Nonetheless, if your wife dislikes your beard, well - you got yourself a problem there.

Beard gives a person an untidy look. We Filipinas prefer our men neat and tidy. I have the same problem with my son who has grown a goatee (although different from a beard but just the same, hair in the face) and have asked him a lot of times to shave it off but it just fell on deaf ears. What is it that a man likes to grow one? Does it make him look mature cause that's what my 26-year old son told me?
Beard can give rashes to a person you have just kissed. They're rough and coarse. Ugh! I hate beards.

I think it has something to do with being clean. If what I learned through the talks I have had with friends who have been in the islands, they don't say it straight out but hint at it. They would be against me for I have had a beard or goatee for thirty years or more.

Hmm A very major issue in the general scheme of things, eh? :)) I recall that when i knew Imelda Marcos in the old , old days when she had fewer shoes, was comely and slender, and had a higher IQ, and Ferdy was off somewhere torturing people, she would often complain about "the scratchiness" she experienced when receiving amazingly stimulating oral ... from me. Could that be a factor? :))))

Have you considered asking your wife. She's probably the best suited to answer this question for you. Chances are you only look good to you, everyone else thinks you look like the south end of a northern facing buffalo.

Possibly because most Filipino men don't have facial hair - or if they do, it is very scanty. So your beard would look strange to them, which is why they are telling you to shave.

If you want warm snuggly cuddles . . . keep your woman happy.
If you don't care about that, why did you get married?
