I work at an independent living facilty with seniors age 65+. I am the activities director and I am trying to think of ideas to start up a group or club that meets about twice a month. I came up with a name of "Silver Angels." I would like the group to do small deeds for the community but at a low cost. We are a non-profit organization so I am trying to stay within a small budget. If anyone has any suggestions as to what the "Silver Angels" mission should be, please leave me a comment. I'm trying to start up a new group and I'm just not sure about how to go about it. Thanks to anyone who reads and posts a comment. Have a great day!

Since you work with independant seniors, you should get them involved visiting with shut-in seniors. There is nothing that will make them feel more thankful for their own independance than seeing others their age who have things much worse than them. And who is able to relate to one senior better than another senior?

Can you imagine the benefits to both to have someone else to talk to that has gone through ALL the same life experiences as them? (Two world wars, the great depression, the big band era, Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye, and half a million other things that don't mean much to the rest of us.)

You could have a fundraiser of some sort, like a play, an ice cream social or auction (even a silent auction). You could gift wrap in malls around Christmastime and ask for a donation. Your group might read to children or donate a children's book to a local library. They might also be given some ground or planters around your facility to take care of during the growing season.

A mission statement? I'll use your own words: "To do small deeds for the community but at low cost." I think those you do good things for might change over time and might include a variety of age groups.

You have come across a wonderful idea. Good luck to you and the senior members of Silver Angels.

There are some super innovations right here, well worth attempting. yet another element which you ought to to attempt, on account which you artwork with an self reliant community, is volunteer artwork. staring on the fragility of the "Silver Angel", there are a number of stuff which could be completed. My first place to seek for Volunteer artwork for those human beings, may well be different Non-salary. They maximum often are in pick. additionally, you're saying which you're a Non-income, i might anticipate you recommend a 501(c)3. if so, there are materials which could be obtained from countless sources. those materials ought to be used for activities which comprise making lap blankets for seniors, hand puppets and/or filled animals for infants at interior reach hospitals. fairly, something that the seniors might pick to do. it is fairly genuinely worth the try. reliable success!

One of the main things which comes to mind is getting involved with the children in your community. Get in touch with the elementary schools, community centers and hospitals in your area for some possible suggestions. Bringing the generations together can't be a bad thing. The children will benefit from the elders experience and the elders from the energy and imagination of the kids.
