Paint and wallpaper for the hallway--I actually bought this in 1999, and then my Mum got really ill, so I never did get around to it. Then my Dad refused to let me make any more changes while he was alive. I am actually still planning on using the paint (it's kitchen and bath so it's washable) but I STILL haven't gotten motivated.
Believe it or not, I have two 6 litre flush, one piece toilets sitting in their boxes in my livingroom, along with a kitchen cabinet complete with sink top and high-bend waterfall nozzle. I want to remodel the bathrooms, and since my daughter's boyfriend works for a Hardware Store, he gets wonderful discounts. I have both bathrooms half torn out--found the plumbing has to be completely re-done in both before I go any farther, so I'm waiting for my brother to get time to do that for me...that is something like 16 months of wait time and counting already! Also found out that my father put TWO thicknesses of gyproc up on the bathroom walls. I have absolutely NO idea why?! But that is going to be a real b*tch to tear off! I want to put a 22 inch tall soaker tub in the main bathroom, and a 5 ft long shower stall in the upstairs bathroom. Haven't bought them yet though.
Apart form those major things, there is not much that doesn't get used in this house....if the person who actually bought it doesn't like it, one of the other three adults or three children is bound to want to use it!

I don't use the crock pot. It's easier to open a can of something.
I don't use the cheese grater. It's easier to buy the cheese already shredded.
I don't record things on the VCR. It's too complicated. I just set my alarm clock and make sure I see it when it airs.
I turned the message recorder off on the phone system. I never listened to the messages anyway.
I don't use the food processor to chop up vegetables. It's too much of a pain to clean the thing when I'm done.
I use a hand wand blender instead of the big countertop one, because pulling it out from under the cabinet involves taking half of the things out from under there to get at it.
I don't use the electric can opener because it is persnickety and it's easier to use the by-hand can opener.
If there are any more, I'll add them later. That's all I can think of right now.
To be fair to the people whose livelihood is sitting around coming up with gadgets, I DO have a professional janitorial mop and mop bucket that I use. The mop is good and heavy and it does half the work for me. The bucket has one of those squeezer deals with a strong pull handle on it so I don't have to put my hands on the mop head. I figure that's one of the great marvels of the modern world and it's strictly mechanical in nature. So much for high-tech.

Let's see... there's the pressure cooker [who lives alone and eats that much?] , the humongous ladder [going to do home repair and am afraid I'll crack my head and I need the few brain cells I still have sparking] , the new shelving for the bath [see above] , a new iron... because before I replaced my old one everything I owned needed pressing and now nothing seems to.
And as you say the list goes on.
We won't discuss the clothes that seemed like such a good idea and are still decorating the closet.
Yea, Sylvia!!! You've come through again. I'm still laughing...

I gave a lot away including a brand new toaster in the box. I don't eat bread wasn't thinking when I ordered it. If I was to buy bread I can toast it in the oven but I don't buy bread. I am getting rid of a half basement full of Christmas stuff I don't care to decorate anymore. Might get rid of the crock pot, electric can opener and food processor next. I gave away half my furniture and kitchen stuff before I have empty drawers in the kitchen and empty shelves.
The last thing I disposed of was a fishing trophy from 1962 that was my dad's. Mom gave it to me when she sold her house, I didn't want it so gave it to my boyfriend to recycle the metal but he kept it because it was my dad's and he admired my dad.

I am mostly happy as how my life turned out, but once in awhile I wish I work out side of the home, so i could get a good retirement check, but I made the choice myself to stay home and be a mother and later i took care of my husband father and my parents, which I wouldn't been able to do if I had a regular job. So i would make the same choice again to stay home

nope, If I don't want it now, I don't get it...and in my life, I have had about everything, so I don't want much any more...well, maybe a 72" flat screen, maybe a new Ipod since mine has bit the dust, maybe a new Goldwing motorcycle (they just cost too damned much for some fun riding), and maybe hire a dog trainer...I have just about had it with my new "puppy" who now wieghs in at 50 pounds and is NOT finished growing. Other than that, nope...nothing comes to mind..well, maybe a new SL Mercedes, but other than that, ....oops, maybe a new 70 foot yacht would be nice, but the upkeep is too much to think about....unless it comes with a lifetime crew...but other than that, ...oh ...there is one more thing.... Never mind.

Can only speak for my mom. She purchased a pan she saw on infomercial where you can cook your meat, veggies and other foods all at once, and wanted me to help her use it. It was just a gadget. and it is still collecting dust.
Then she purchased a blender so she could make fruit smoothies, hasn't done it yet, still collecting dust. Wants me to help her use it.
Then she purchased a pizza pan so "we" can make our own pizza. Hasn't happened. Always order one and have delivered. The Crock pot (still in the box), this big can opener I told my sister NOT to get (still in the box). etc. etc.
I am not a gadget person and I don't buy what I know I am not going to use, but still if it makes her happy.

I've got another decade before I qualify as a senior citizen, but yes, I've bought on impulse many, many times, which is why my house now needs an enema. My mother is even worse. She buys items in mass quantities, then brings it over to my house because she doesn't know what to do with it.
