They are to include everything, including senior residences with inclusion to the 'family'of the community. I've only read of one. The people seemed quite pleased w/the way things had been designed. It was especially good for seniors who either had no immediate family, or were separated by great distances... And children who hadn't had the chance to get to know their grandparents.

I've seen teenagers with crazy coloured hair. I fancy a couple of purple or blue or pink streaks in my own hair just for fun. Or would people send for the men in white coats? Is it only teenagers who can get away with being unconventional and not be laughed at?

Would like to know if anyone has every set up loaner program of Ham radio equipment. For Hams in Nursing homes or living at home. Would be nice to see if we had a system set up to keep track of Hams we don't hear on the air. And to assist them to get back on the air. Or to help re locate their station and antennas if needed from let's say the basement to up stairs living area.

My sister, who I hadn't seen for over 20 years came to stay with me from Aussie for christmas 2001. It was fantastic to get together after all those years and meet her children at last.
While she was here she suggested we invest in a pc to keep in touch with all of them. It used to take weeks to recieve her mail. So out came the trusty credit card, and she did her best to teach me to email. Thank goodness the credit card was soon paid off! lol
Anyway, we now mail almost daily and I am watching her girls web pages as they grow into young ladies.
So my question is. How long have you had a computer and what prompted you to buy it in the first place?
Thanks for your replies, well if I get some! lol

Does anyone know of elderly care services in Pakistan- particularly in Karachi? My dad who lives in Karachi, recently had a stroke that has left him paralyzed and is now unable to take care of himself there. He does not want to relocate to the U.S. and we don't want to move to Pakistan. So we are wondering if there are any quality nursing homes in Karachi where he my get the attention he requires and deserves.

Does anyone know of a program in PA for helping low income senior citizens to buy a new furnace? My inlaws are in desperate need of a new furnance but can't afford one. I've tried community action and the aging programs with no help. There must be something out there. Thanks

I care for my son in laws mother full time. God has used her to touch my heart in so many ways. Recently I was walking her to the kitchen and in my own tiredness I was pushing her from the back to keep her on track, she stopped in her tracks, and said, " Honey, please go a little slower, my little wings just wont fly that fast.".....I was immediately humbled and asked her and God to forgive my impatience. Later I felt a big smile come over my face, as I thought about Gods sense of humor and the way He helps us to see out own faults. With a hand of love he gives us a moment of laughter when our own abilities are at their lowest. How great God is to speak to us in just the right manner at just the right time!
Please share your story......

When my son was about 4 years old, he fetched a toy car to his Dad and said "what does it say on this car daddy, would you read it please?
His Dad said, " Oh that says Made in Hong Kong"

Our little one said " Oh I know him, he used to be a gorilla!"

That is a true story and 34 years on still makes me laugh. How about you?

Who is to blame for the dismal shape our "graduates" are in? Education has been heading for the lowest common denominator since the mid 60's, and so far, it has not reached the gutter, but year by year, we keep approaching it...who is to blame? Parents who think their only responsibility is dumping their kids off at school? Teachers who are expected to be baby sitters? Kids who have been taught that they are accountable for NOTHING they do? School systems that fail NO ONE / Pass all who enter and attend unarmed? Who will accept the blame and turn this ugly situation around? Can it be turned around? I have my own thoughts, how about yours....

about the state of youth today. (yes, I know, for eternity, elders have thought the same thing)...I see HS grads who cannot add, subtract, mulitply or divide WITH a calculator ! So many of these same graduates cannot read, certainly cannot write, spelling is beyond them. NOW...here is the question....when the future of the US is left in the hands of about 1-5% of those same HS graduates (the ones who actually learned something instead of being cool and chasing boys), obviously, our pool of "leaders" will be greatly reduced...(do we really want another GW BUSH as President...sorry about the politics). I would love to hear your thoughts on this scourge of ignorance our schools and .... parents... are churning out. I could go on and on, but I will let you fill in the blanks..I do not think I am painting an abnormally dire forecast...I see this everyday, cannot hire 95% of job applicants because they can't even divide by 10!

I'm looking for any surveys done, such by AARP or some other organization, to identify what criteria Boomers say they use (or will use) when choosing where to live after retirement. By criteria I mean things like warm weather, promixity to health care, affordable housing...that sort of thing. I can guess what the criteria might be, but it would nice to see a survey that validates (or disproves) my thoughts. This is research for a book.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciate. Thanks to all who contribute.

As I approach my 70th birthday, I'm wishing i'd taken notes. I'd write a book about the dozens of little things I didn't expect about aging. Little aches and pains, vision problems, etc., those things are more or less expected. But what about other things? I'd make a little list, but I've forgotten them all. LOL. How about you?

I am constantly amused by questions here...it would seem that younger people view us as grouchy, ugly, marginally insane, depressed, left-over people who get in everyone's way! Some go so far as to suggest that we alter our shopping times to suit their needs! What in the world is going on in these "heads?" Is this truely the result of the Chemical generation????
