I occur to be forty nine years younger -- not a "senior citizen" but - ha ha (despite the fact that I DID begin getting AARP mail - LOL).... Matters are distinctive for the kids now. Yes, part of it is our possess fault. I raised two boys (now guys) -- one is a drug addict and the other is a well revered Corpsman....Go figure - raised exactly the same way. I attempted tough to be "neighbors" with my children even as they had been going via their teen years. But however, my father used to be more like my pal too - even though I failed to share with him my mischevious aspect - lol. Existence was "cozy" once I used to be growing up - men and women weren't getting laid off at all times and struggling. Now adays these young adults mothers and fathers are having critical financial issues they usually suffer from it. I do know this for a truth. I'm not speakme about having matters -- i am speaking about now not having a loved ones unit being harassed out over paying for a roof over their head and food on the table. It is tough for so many humans. Additionally after 9-11 plenty of the teens had been children - and handling that was once horrible for them and i feel they reside afraid a lot of the time now. Plus, the medicines are much more severe than after I used to be in university. It was once most of the time pot and each once in a even as you'd hear about any one doing acid. Drugs are a tremendous deal anymore for them. There may be quite a lot of stress on them. With out what they saw during Sep 11, it can be difficult being a young person - hormones going crazy and the world just about appears scary. Once I grew up, we failed to have got to be afraid to be out at night -- nothing to fear about. Parents now need to instill worry in the kids -- it goes into the teenager years - the worry of anything dangerous taking place. That is just a little little bit of it.

Start with SS records. IF your dad has died, his name will be in the list, along with the death date.
Then, if not there, go to the SS administration and see if they have active records on your father...they will not give you information, but they may say the record is active. That at least, is a start.
Now, go to California's records, find if his name is listed in any record...property ownership, car, etc. If he has a license to drive, it is public record. Take it from there. If he is recieving SS payment, there are addresses, etc. but you will have to prove why you want the info. They may contact him and let him know you are searching for him...he can then call you if he wants to see you. Good luck

One thing I didn't see listed in all of the wonderful answers is the Veteran's Administration, if he served in the Armed Forces. This sometimes is a little time consuming, but worth it if he was military at any time. Just contact your local VA Office and find out what you need to do a search and they'll help you.

I would suggest checking with Medi-cal. That's the California version of Medicare. If he is a senior citizen and in California, he is probably signed up with it.

I would check the online census records - to see if there was an address for your Dad in California at the last census.
Sorry to be morbid, but you should probably also check the Death Index, since he might have died,

Go to a public library with a genealogy room that has access to public records. You can look in the public record database. You might post in the genealogy section and ask if someone would do the search for you. You would have to give your Dad's name and age, and hopefully his name isn't too common.

I've found quite a few people using whitepages.com It's easy and free, you might try that. Otherwise I wouldn't know of any other way to find out. Good luck!
