Just a short story...
It was a hot summer day. Gabriel can’t bear the heat of the sun. He searched for something to cool him down but to no avail. His friend, Althea saw him drenched in sweat so she offered him a cup of shaved ice. After finishing his, he scanned his surroundings for a trash bin in order to dispose the cup. Unfortunately, none were insight. He later decided to leave it lying on the ground. Althea foresaw his intention and tried to stop him. “Gabriel, don’t even think about leaving it on the ground. You know better than that. That’s littering!” informed Althea. Unfortunaltely, Gabriel is very stubborn “Oh please! What can one cup do to our environment?”

What can you people say about Gabriel? I need an honest opinion here? I think that even though it was only one it's nbot right because it's still littering! Whatcha people think??

I am an Occupational therapist with both British and French state registration. I am planning to start a private practice in France in January 2007. To this end I am interested in the type of difficulties people are experiencing settling in/moving on. I have been assisting British people on a voluntary basis to gain experience and widen the scope of my practice. Currently, issues I have been involved with, include
Statementing for children with special needs to gain a support worker in class - including appeals process
Assistence to obtain social security number/ carte vitale
Assistence to claim their benefits entitlement - with the consequent access to services this offers
Advising on suitable environmental adaptations
Problems with utility companies, EDF,
Joint visits for medical appointments
Looking at ways to test if their business idea is viable without the high social charges at the outset
Obtaining grant assistance for building renovation.

For 4 years now my husband has been fighting 2 different cancers. I have been his main caregiver. Which at times isn't easy. I had in the past contacted several insurace companies trying to get home insurance coverage, no success. Last spring a bad thunderstorm came through. I didn't think our roof was damaged. I was wrong. When it rains, it comes through the roof and between the wall of my daughter's room and bathroom. We have about a1/2 inch of water standing in the bathroom when it rains. I had to take my daughter and her baby out of her room because I'm afraid the ceiling will cave in on them, it drips so bad in there. Are there any agencies I can appeal to for help. We own this home and because of all our other cost we can't afford to move or get repairs done out of pocket.

That would be at this time over $36,000.00. The guide lines for use of the money could be from a census of the answers or perhaps by vote of the contributors. Perhaps Yahoo could select the top ten different ideas and put them up for vote. It's a crazy thought, but what if?

like not just donating by mail, but actually going to the charity to help out, like for example wrapping presents for needy children or donating toys?

I am thinking of making a new internet show series, "Random Acts of Kindness" on YouTube. I am going to save up some money, and ask for donations. What I will do with this is use it towards charity. I will do such things as going out and giving money to the homeless in the city, giving money to people who have sons and daughters with cancer and can't afford it, and things such as that. Do you have any other ideas for things I can do? And do you have any ideas for how I can edit my show, and get these donations? Any ideas for getting a sponsor? In your opinion, would you watch this show? And finally, any other suggestions?

I want to help society to improve, not just in the present, but for the future. What type of community work, activism, or volunteering do you do? Or what areas do you feel are truly in need of assistance, but have been overlooked? There are so many areas where one could help that it's hard to choose. I plan to make major changes in the future, and I want to use my time wisely. One person can not change the world, but small changes and help, by many people, can make a huge difference. I don't have much money, but I do have a huge heart, lots of time, and a strong desire to help others. I think everyone has an obligation to step out of their comfort zones, and help others. It takes some of us longer to do that for various reasons, but once we WAKE UP, there are no excuses for not reaching out to others, or working on some level to help make a positive change for society. Thanks

What have you done for others, like Seniors, for Christmas? I'm asking but giving those who would like to, ideas. Just in case!

I get a list from a retirement home, of those who have little or no families/friends, who would like a Christmas card. Then I send each of them a card, and I share the list with my close friends. I've even given this facility any extra Thanksgiving turkeys I have, sometimes cookies I've baked etc...

My husband even got in on the idea and donated a big screen TV we wanted to replace, with a newer styel. They have it now in their entertainment room.

They do craft bazaars every year so when I have unused craft supplies, or items they can sell, I donate those too.

They are so sweet - they remember me each year when I call for the list of names. One year they even invited me to come take a tour of their facility.

You know, we all could end up in a place like that someday. Really makes me think!

If "Joe Average" asked the question about how you would use $1,000 to change someone's life he might get a few responses. Does that fact that it's a major celeb like Oprah explain the response? Are we so taken with celebs that we await their every word and give their opinion too much weight? Has Yahoo! Answers changed it's focus? What do you think?

Are there any organizations in the SF Peninsula where a person can volunteer to do home repairs and handyman work for the elderly?

And/or does anyone know of a reference place I can go (online) to look for places that do those sorts of things?
