Catholic Relief Services is able to bring hope to the poorest of God’s children, often innocent people who suffer for no reason.
Last year alone, we touched the lives of over 60 million people, many of whom live in villages off the beaten path, with few resources available to sustain themselves.
As the official humanitarian organization of the U.S. Catholic Church, it is our duty to help alleviate human suffering whenever and wherever we can. At the same time, we must help those less fortunate take an active role in their future by working together to build secure, productive and just communities.

I don't have a great deal of money but throughout the year I go to the Dollar Store and Walmart and buy coloring books, books to read, playing cards, barbie dolls, etc. I then take everything to the local firehouse and they give these toys to needy children for Christmas. It doesn't cost a great deal of money but you can help a lot of needy children. Just a suggestion. Happy Holidays.

You can donate to the Shriners Hospitals and Burn Centers for Children. Any donations are readly accepted. Your donation will help all children under the age of 18 to receive medical help for free. There are 19 orthopedic hospitals and 3 burn centers. There is a annual budget of $665,000,000.00. 93% of all money donated goes to the operation of the hospitals, which includes research. So if you have a penny, nickel, dime, quarter, half, or one dollar or any amount above or below that, think of the Shriners Hospitals and Burn Centers for Children.

Way cool. Glad to hear you are giving - its a real spiritual buzz!
You can give anything to shelters for homelessness. Clothes, hair dryers, etc. They REALLY need grooming products. Everyone seems to think of food and clothing but no one seems to think of soap, deo, toothbrushes and paste, etc.
Like the other person wrote, animal shelters always can used toys, food, litter, etc.
I really suggest you think of what group you really admire. Is there any charity that works with something close to your heart? If so, go for them. It's people like you, who give what is considered a small amount (but hey, any amount is big when there is a need) that really support charitable work.
Yeah, they love those huge checks from bazillionaires, but its the working stiffs and poor who give the most!

Buy toys and give to the Toys for Tots program, there are so many children that will not have Christmas presents this year. Another great idea would be to give money to the local food bank in your area. They run out of food this time of year.

Well since it is around Christmas time perhaps toy for tots is a good one for children. Another one would be is to check charitywatch.org or the IRS has some things about tips you could look into for ideas. Helping donate food items is another idea as well.

A NO KILL animal shelter would be a terrific charity to remember. The Salvation Army is another good one.

Go local, it means far more to them than the big national groups, some of whom are more like corporations these days.
