"I'm being oppressed" or "my beliefs are endangered by (fill in group of your choice)" etc seems to be a refrain i keep hearing out of various people these days.

Which is kind of funny because when I query the people who come from a diametrically opposed viewpoints - they kind of have the same thing on their mind.

Strangely, there's a kind of......."faith"(not the best word to use here) that the otherside (whatever the otherside may be) will be swept away, and that the Earth will be a better place (or at least a quieter place) without the other people around.

So its a model of "Crisis" --- "Struggle" ---- "Assured Future Success(They will See the Light/Reason/Great Proletarian Revolution/Whatever)"

Its a kind of narrative - Is it rather more like a mental trick/structuring that gives meaning to peoples lives? (IE: The struggle gives me meaning.)

C people who walkdown it escape the narrative? Do they even want to?

Science should dismiss it as a delusional state of mind, and not even consider it to be a logical working explanation of anything in our universe. I dont know about you guys, but I'm tired of hearing "Because god wanted it to be that way" for everything that happens in our world. how can a god be OK with the Genocides that we have carried out on his name? the killings of innocent people becuase him. People, if something does not exist it will not show, which is why you will never see a god. Idiots can go and fight over who has the better imaginary friend all they want, but please lets not believe that a god would create us, then set traps for us, and once fall into it punish us with his fire and smoke and pain and agony for eternity, but our parents tell us "God Loves you" Why do you people think?

I could eat boiled beans over a campfire every night, drink cheap wine and sleep under the stars.

This doesn't sound to bad to me.

72. Surely, they have disbelieved who say: "Allâh is the Messiah [‘Îsâ (Jesus)], son of Maryam (Mary)." But the Messiah [‘Îsâ (Jesus)] said: "O Children of Israel! Worship Allâh, my Lord and your Lord." Verily, whosoever sets up partners (in worship) with Allâh, then Allâh has forbidden Paradise to him, and the Fire will be his abode[1]. And for the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers) there are no helpers.

The interpretation difference between some Protestant groups and Catholics is that Catholics do not consider Revelations to be prophesy - for Catholics Revelations is but a poem of lament after the Romans destroyed Jerusalem in 70 AD.. Early Christians expected Christ to return sooner rather than later and to save Jerusalem from destruction from the Romans.

Thus, Revelation the poem was written. Each of the gospels has some poetic license built in though - each gospel was written for a specific community at the time: each gospel is a Christianity marketing piece with historical information included.

Ummmmm ... what part of evolution is dictated by the government? I wasn't aware that the "state" had any jurisdiction over naturally occuring genetic mutations.

I could be wrong though ...

I work with a woman who is quite Christian, and talks about God and her beliefs quite often in the office. I generally avoid discussing such taboo topics at work. When she heard from another co-worker that I am Athiest, she opted to confront me (kindly) about my lack of belief in God. Not wanting to continue the uncomfortable conversation, I simply told her that I have nothing against her choice of religion, but I personally find organized religion dangerous and choose not to follow. She was severely offended (?) and, from what I hear, is planning to report me to HR....what exactly did I do wrong here?

Lately my spiritual walk with the Lord hasn't been too great.

My pastor taught in his sermon last Sunday that you have to read your Bible and pray daily to get closer to the Lord. And that you need to truly seek him to find his blessings.

But he didn't exactly say HOW you should seek him.

What does it mean to seek God?
And how do you begin to do so?

-- And if you're an atheist, please refrain from answering.

When I was in Sunday school we learned all about how god killed everyone on the planet except for Noah and his ark. Then we learned about how god killed all the first born sons of Egypt to punish one man. Then we learned how he destroyed a city and turned a lady in a pile of salt.

Then I went to highschool and learned how tiny mutations in animals over time can lead to the formation of new species. No one was murdered in the process. It was refreshing.
