I would say all you need is a sense of humour....those poor people who lack a sense of humour miss out on life.

No. I don't think it is a crime to be happy. In fact, I wish there were more happy posts on this site! When a person asks a serious question, they should get some helpful answers from other users. Sadly, this doesn't always happen & people carry their angry baggage from the outside world on the internet & start attacking others by name when they don't like what they read. It would be nice to hear about success stories, but having to put everything in a question form seems to limit the possibilities of getting it in print without violation notices! Since it is a Q & A site, I suppose that many people want happy answers to unhappy situations & that isn't an easy feat in a public forum with user policing formats. I try to see the good in the worst of situations, but it does seem like helping an unhappy person to get happy is an even bigger crime than just being unhappy! The truth should make people happy, yet it works in the opposite direction with many of them! Go figure...who knew? When someone says "life is too short to be moaning & miserable", that usually just means that they don't have an answer or any REAL LIFE experience to share with another user. Some people just want the points & the "kill" factor of passing on the same dysfunctional teachings that were heaped onto them when they were children! It's like a can of mixed nuts when you are on the world wide web. You never know what will end up in your mouth unless you look at what you have in your hand BEFORE you throw it all in! Sometimes, you have a chance to spit it out...other times, you have to deal with the heartburn of a toxic substance in your system! That's what I think.

No, definitely not a crime, I think it's great you are a happy person. There are people who are going to be miserable no matter what is going on. They've done it so long they don't know how to be any other way. I'd stay away from them as much as possible. However, we can never be certain about what someone may be going through in their lives. Telling them to 'lighten up' may not be the best thing. It's great that you are a happy, carefree person, but life isn't always that easy for some folks. Just try to be sensitive, but still be yourself. Good Luck!

I don't think anybody is saying you shouldn't be a happy type of person. I'm an optimist myself.
But there can be such a thing as an overwhelming gleefulness and rosy outlook on life in general, that dosn't really take into consideration that others may be in quite different places in their lives.
Some are in very deep trouble, struggling and and fighting battles in their lives, with disease, finances, or suffereing losses and their world is not 'happy', they can't lighten up, and they can't make it better.
Being happily flippant and oblivious to that only pours salt into raw and open wounds.
Perhaps you should tone it down a peg. I find I can be uplifting and encouraging and hold onto my own joy without crushing others with what I am lucky enough to possess and
besides, someday the tables may be turned.

It seems that way sometimes, doesn't it.
Some people are only 'happy' when they're miserable.
Sometimes people do laugh but it's in a cruel way, I don't like that.
Stress, pressure and an obsession with statistics don't help.
I think happy people do have to learn the knack of knowing when someone has a genuine reason to be sad though.
Apart from that, don't let the b's get you down.

If it is a crime I will probably be shot at dawn 'cos I have been laughing all week.
There are too many miserable sods walking about like they have the rough end of a pineapple stuck up their ar$e.
Since retiring from my employment I now host a joke site in the USA which now has in excess of 3250 jokes and climbing every day. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!

It's not a crime to be happy & I am of the same mindset as you. No, it's not wrong to tell people to lighten up, etc. Some people need to be reminded of this from time to time. Life is indeed too short to wallow in misery. I do believe that there are people out there who are just plain jealous of happy-go-lucky people, like you & me. We are who we are!!! :)

It's is all about attitude. We choose everyday what our attitude is going to be. Even if i wake up in a not so good mood, I try to put on a happy face, because it helps me and those around me. When I am at work, I try to avoid the people who are always complaining and have nothing to say but negative thoughts. There is something to be thankful for everyday. You woke up and are able to get out of bed...some people aren't even that fortunate.Yes, people are jealous. I had a girl at work tell me that she didn't hate me for how I am.

No, it's never a crime to be happy. Everyone has the right to be happy. Yes, it's probably jealousy for those who don't like happy people. Happiness isn't something that's controlled by your situations; it's a choice. You can choose to be happy despite the circumstances that you're in.

Of course not! ... but when people are moaning/miserable they usually are looking for someone to listen to them..not to tell them to lighten up [at least in most cases - there are always the 24x7 doomsday types] - they may feel their feelings or problems are 'dismissed' as not worthy of talking about when we say lighten up....One can always listen [acknowledging them] AND suggest they try looking on the brighter side of things :-)

It's great that you feel so happy, however you mention your co workers getting grumpy at your happiness perhaps you are distracting them from their work thus annoying them.
Try your happiness theme during breaks and keep your head down during working hours and see if it makes a difference.
