I was raised Jewish so I believe in a lot of the Jewish teachings. However the more that I study Christianity the more convinced I become that Jesus was the messiah. However there is one point that I cannot accept - the immaculate conception. I believe that Mary had sex out of wed-lock and became pregnant. According to some sources (mainly Jewish and Islamic) she then promised God that she would give her child to him so that he could use him for his will. So basically what I am wondering is if there is any Christian sect that believes that Jesus was the messiah but not the son of God in a biological sense (but is the son of God in a spiritual sense)?

Share some good movie moments with us. Some examples:

Raiders of the Lost Ark: "Snakes...why did it have to be snakes?"

Dead Poets Society: "Boys, you must strive to find your own voice. Because the longer you wait to begin, the less likely you are to find it at all. Thoreau said, "Most men lead lives of quiet desperation." Don't be resigned to that. Break out!"

The Devils Advocate: "Vanity, definitely my favorite sin."

O Brother Where Art Thou: "Pete, it's a fool that looks for logic in the chambers of the human heart."

The Terminator: "Come with me if you want to live."

Is there a particular / set age to get married? I turned 27 today and my family has been bugging me about getting married and starting a family. Right now, I'm at a point in my life where I'm just taking care of me. I"m doing my masters, I have a good job, my own place, yet I really don't feel like I"m ready for marriage and a family as yet. I'm feeling the pressure and I'm feeling like I have to get married just to prove a point or start a family.. Is there a certain age that a person has to marry by? I know I want kids, just not right now, maybe when I'm 30..who knows.. I think when the time is right, it'll happen. Am I wrong for thinking this way?

to you?
Which is it you want the most? A God that "loves" everybody and doesn't send anyone to hell, or a God that punishes evildoers?

When the missionaries came to Africa they had the Bible and we had the land. They said "Let us pray." We closed our eyes. When we opened them we had the Bible and they had our land. -- Desmond Tutu

...were really fat. Now it could be that they have some medical condition, but I suspect many of them were gluttons.

Why isn't gayness considered something that can't be helped like those who put on a lot of weight easily?

And why isn't gluttony considered in the same light as other sins? It does a lot of harm to the body and harm to the self esteem. I'm sure God is as concerned about that as he is what people do in their sex lives.

does it ever make you stop and think? Do you really see other people's points of views on why they have a distaste for Christianity? Or do you simply go on the defense and wish them to hell?
This is not for all Christians. I know several that completly understand why people are frusterated with Christianity. I speak to those who scream "persecution" in one breath and then wish you to hell in the other.

John 1:1 In the beginning there was the word and the word was with god and god was the word

John1:2 And the same was in the beginning with God

what dose this say to you?
I have a thought maybe (I don't want anyone getting offended)
god wasn't always God, I mean this, even thought he is all everything he had to be mentored to become God, just as you and I must be tought how to do every thing that we know, so how could there be a God that just appeard out of nowhere there is a Creator that set things off billions of yrs ago and he is not alone. and it took this long for us to evolve into what you see today and he wants to come back but not till we can get along and get over our petty drama just like a bunch of kids stop fighting take care of our family and each other. so there it is.
?just venting (',')

I just had ESPN on and they were talking about the Jones Town Massacre, it was 29 years ago in Nov. I remember it as I was in another state helping my sis in law with her new baby. I remember the news coverage said around 400 died today they said almost a thousand died and I never in all these years knew that Jim Jones was black. Did you know these facts as I saw them today?

well-being depend on it. This is universal. This is why there are wars over religions. Atheists are not different. To understand what I mean, see this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4fQA9mt-Mg
I am not blaming atheists for that. This is normal. They should care. However, some atheists are so blind that they don't realize that, on this respect, they are exactly like religious people. The religious people also think that they have the solution to this universal problem. It is because they are concerned exactly like you are that they also care about the presence of their religion in the society. It is the same thing.

Atheists, don't repeat your point such as religions are fairy tales, etc. You maybe right on some things, but you might also be missing very fundamental aspects. I know that you admit that you don't have the whole truth, but the same attitude is also very strong amongst religious people. Everybody thinks he has the way, the method, etc., but not the whole truth.
