I wonder how faith can move a mountain as the Lord says as long as we have faith as small as a mustard seed.

Does the Lord mean it literally? as in Luke 17 :5-6

Didn't most people has faith in believing that God has the power to work miracles. Please enlighten me.

What is it about you that attracts people to you? Is it your physical appearance, the nature of your spirit, your humor, what you do for others? Help me to understand what it is that makes you and people in general well liked. Thanks

In a previous question of mine, most Christians said God will judge everything in time:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071007181702AABPohg
If this is the case, why be so adamant that your morals be declared law?
That, to me, is a contradiction. You say God gave us freewill yet you Christians try to take that away.
If God can be so apathetic, why can't you?
Why don't you just live your life the way you like and let others live theirs, whether it's against your mores or not?

Honestly, don't say "there's nothing wrong with it!!" Tell me why it COULD be wrong. I've been curious to see this argument laid out.

I was watching Saturday's Warrior(YEAH...I know...old) and on there it showed how the oldest brother made a pact to the little girl in the pre-mortal life...but when his mom was pregnant with her, she had a miscarriage and the girl was like "why didn't *name* keep his promise?"

What happens to all the babies who are misscariaged or aborted?

Because I know the babies who are born but die before the years of accountability are saved and go to the Celestial Kingdom...but what if they're not even born and don't get a physical body?

Is someone familiar with the story of Jacob and Laban, and can explain it in their own words?

This came up in a recent Biology section post, and I gave my interpretation as I understood it, but would love to hear if this is the accepted interpretation:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AheI6fpISEZ62a3NO1sXKj7ty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071004184148AAxtujW&show=7#profile-info-1f926bc362024bbe97bd1aa1029fc12aaa

Please don't just quote Genesis:30 to me. I'm familiar with the passage (and it is given by the asker in the above link).

I am looking for a description in your own words.

Thanks!

Some quotes:

"The originator of Taoism, Lao Tzu, basically said "smoke 'em if you got 'em" and "mellow out, man" although he said this in ancient Chinese so something may have been lost in the translation."

"Dudeism provides realistic advice for those with emotional problems or just feeling really shitty. All titles will be available as soon as someone gets off their lazy duff and writes them."

tha the Holy Spirit has emotions?

For example in Ephesians 4:30 we are admonished, " Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God ". Grief is an emotion, and emotions cannot be experienced by a force ( an impersonal force ). Grief is something someone feels. The Holy Spirit feels the emotion of grief when believers sin.

In the context of Ephesians, such sins include lying ( v 25 ), anger (v 26 ), stealing ( v 28 ), laziness ( v 28, and speaking words that are unkind ( v 29 ).

It seems impossible especially in the Christian religion, to believe in God and try to be as best of a person as possible, yet survive, thrive, be intellectual/smart, and get by in this life.

Let's face it, just to SURVIVE, takes so many skills, effort, brainpower and sometimes you do things that are "sinful" just to get by. I mean how can you literally manufacture machines like computers, do extremely scientific, intellectual work, run a business, be a doctor/lawyer, or do something OTHER THAN BEING useless, and at the same time have "god" on your side, when you're not really doing god's work.

I think it's near impossible to be with god and be happy and successful in this world, becuase according to God, nearly EVERYTHING in this life is evil, including trying to modernize yourself and life, and care about the "future" of this world.

TO me, it sounds almost like GOD is evil, and wants to prevent us from BEING in this world.

How can I make the two work? It's hard.

Creationists say that they do that. Scientists, except the minority that are also creationist, don't accept it. I don't accept it either. Fine, but we should continue to try. Religious people should try to unify their belief with science, not just have it together with science as if there was two distinct ultimate realities: God on the religious side and the laws of nature on the science side. In the same way, scientists should realize that the laws of nature aren't just something outside us only accessible through external devices.

There is an obvious link between these two realities. Our brain is a tool to take full advantage of these laws of nature through an efficient technique of meditation. This is currently explored within science. Any experience related to God, in any form, must be an expression of the laws of nature. It is not a peculiar unification. It is not at all a diminution of God. It is a better appreciation of the laws of nature. It's the same God.

I'm working on a huge project for my college group and could use some help with the technicalities. I know that these themes can be found in both gospels, does anyone know the specific passages? Thanks for the help!

-Jesus is an example of a pray-er
-The kingdom of God is in your midst
-Women are disciples
-Whatever Jesus did the apostles can do
-The Holy Spirit fills/guides the people/the church
-Jesus and his followers engage in table fellowship with societal outcasts
-Jesus and his followers advocate the sharing of riches
-Discipleship is witnessing (observe, testify, be martyred)
-Riches are entrusted to one to be shared with others who have none
-Jesus’ death and the death of his followers is innocent martyrdom
-Ascension is a Lukan invention removing Jesus from the earth so the apostles can establish the church

Examples: Availability of weapons is the reason there's so much violent crime in the U.S. It has nothing to do with the fact our materialistic/independant society tends to isolate some people.

God is only responsable for the good things in the world. All the stuff we don't like is the responsability of the Devil.

JFK was shot by a lone, crazed lunatic. He wasn't pissing a lot of people off and Lee Harvey Ozwald had a lot of help.

The availability of drugs is why so many people are addicted. Once again, it has nothing to do with people feeling isolated in our society.

Feel free to disagree with any of this. Just food for thought.
