Examples: Availability of weapons is the reason there's so much violent crime in the U.S. It has nothing to do with the fact our materialistic/independant society tends to isolate some people.

God is only responsable for the good things in the world. All the stuff we don't like is the responsability of the Devil.

JFK was shot by a lone, crazed lunatic. He wasn't pissing a lot of people off and Lee Harvey Ozwald had a lot of help.

The availability of drugs is why so many people are addicted. Once again, it has nothing to do with people feeling isolated in our society.

Feel free to disagree with any of this. Just food for thought.

Oh one more example: If we put all the bad guys in jail there'll be nothing but good people left and society will be wonderful.

Yes, there is way too much. But, look at the benefits of becoming a "victim". Litigation in this country is completely out of control. As long as we reward people for this kind of behavior, it will continue. Monetary compensation is one thing, but people also get a lot of mileage out of the attention they get. And, if they're not getting attention for their bad behavior, they are not facing repercussions for it either.

Letting everyone else be responsible for all of the bad things that happen to you (or to others, the world, etc) can cause a lot of anxiety. If you blame others, you also give them control over the outcomes in your life. The only way to have some autonomy and independence is to take responsibility for your actions.

As for bad things that happen to other people, it seems to be a knee jerk reaction to automatically pass blame rather than to give situations some deep thought. Words of the wise that are passed down through the ages seem to come from teachers who practice compassion and forgiveness rather than finger pointing.

Always - people never want to admit that they, or someone they are associated with, are to blame, or at least hold some responsibility.
With that said, I DO believe in the devil, and ultimately, I believe that he IS responsible for the bad things in this world, but not in the way that you stated. Some bad things just happen - that's life. It doesn't take the devil pulling the strings for everything to go wrong. However, God did have a perfect plan for His creation, and it didn't involve ANY bad. So, if you want to argue the devil point, I suppose you could blame the "snake" in the garden - if it weren't for that, hypothetically we would still be living the good life!
Good question - hope it gets some scapegoatherders thinking!

Sure there is. It's just easier to put the blame elsewhere.

The problem is we don't work together as one. We think other people's problems are their own, and we thank our lucky stars when something bad happens and it's not us.
We don't realize that everything that happens affects us directly or inderectly.
Like 9/11 was the terrorists fault. And they're evil, that's why they did that. The fact that Bush has slaughtered innocent people including children in the Middle East, had nothing to do with it.
God isn't responsible for the bad things that happen, neither is the devil. We are responsible.

That being said, I have to admit that sometimes, I blame bad luck for things that went wrong in my life. :)))))

i think that a scapegoat cud b immigrants...im mexican 14 and resident here....and it really hurts how we have to come to dis country for good finacial status and for all da ppl, who in my opinion arent even "AMERICAN"....
hello im also american bcuz as far as i know amreica...da continent contains about 27 countries....from canada all da way down into south america all da way down to chile.....but anyways y do dey blame all da hispanics.....many "american" r frum german,italien,french,english...overall european decent.....so y do dey think dat dey can blame it all on da mexicans...and dey right away assume we're illegal

and i agree wit # 1 and #4.....i think a bunch of more ppl r taking dugs bcuz dey dont have enough strength to say no or to stand up for themselves also a lot of crazy ppl r taking drugs bcuz dey CANT TAKE nything....for exapmle i kno i'm really young but i'm mexican and we KNOW wen we r suppose to or allowed to do things and were not to....but here ppl r just so scared dat its a law u cant even touch ur kids or else u'll go 2 jail....i think dat its okay for a parent 2 discipline dere kids so dey wont grow up not being able to deal wit problems and bliving evryone will do wat dey want just like dere parents////

personally dats y i think so many ppl r saying dey r DEPPRESED da only thing wrong wit dem is dat dey cant take anything and just a little simple problem becomes da end of da world for dem......
