In a previous question of mine, most Christians said God will judge everything in time:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071007181702AABPohg
If this is the case, why be so adamant that your morals be declared law?
That, to me, is a contradiction. You say God gave us freewill yet you Christians try to take that away.
If God can be so apathetic, why can't you?
Why don't you just live your life the way you like and let others live theirs, whether it's against your mores or not?

tebone: Love your deflections. If it's against the law it should be punished and those things ACTUALLY hurt people! Not believing in God hurts no one. And, you're doing more than tell the truth, you're dictating truth.

I guess that God is not a two way street is it, they (forgive the sweeping comment) proclaim that his love is so great, and then preach hate in his name.
They declare a faith in his final judgement, but are so worried about it, they then proceed to try and do his job for him, hoping that this will allow them some brownie points off their own hypocrisies.
They (my brush is truly a mile wide today, RAmen) tell us we are created in gods image, and thus should be delighting in that perfection, but in the same breath, tell us to cover up our bodies and fight our natural urges - ones which were given to us by God, because they are suddenly sinful.
In fact the proverbial 'they' have made every known pleasure or action we do, linked directly to some sort of sin, if not done with their consent, that they (its ten miles wide now this brush) turn our world, the world that they tell us is created by hm, into a living hell.
Atheism is freedom of choice, and that scares the heaven out of them. So they make up a whole lot of silly rules, to punish people for acting and thinking in the way that they tell us we were created by their god. And they do this in our name, to help us go to a heaven that they have created, but if it is as dictated and an-al as they have made earth, then please send me straight to hell, at least I won't have to pretend and be two faced.

We cannot take away anyone's free will. Legislating something is not the same as taking away free will. Everyone has free will...to choose to follow Christ or not. Free will is not the same thing as a right to choose.
The human race is in this together. It is a fallacy to believe that what you do or I do, does not affect all of us. The more garbage that is put out there on TV, on the radios, taught to our children in schools etc....undermines the moral and spiritual good of all.
If you see you brother happily trotting off, eyes closed...towards a cliff...wouldn't you say something? That's what we see...so many happily trotting to their own destruction...and the moral decay of society as a whole.
We are all part of the fabric of society. What we argue over today may be basic instruction in school one day.
Yes, God will ultimately judge all of us. I want to know that I stood up, against the tide, for what is right. I cared about what my children would see, hear, and be told was moral.

The reason is because Christians are encouraged to "share" their religion with others. And by "encouraged"... failing this task will make them bad Christians and will leave the unconverted to burn in hell.
Oddly enough, not that religion is tied in to politics in any way, but governments benefit greatly from this kind of "self-policing practice" that is typified by the Christian religion... not only as a diversionary tactic but also to keep the masses in fear of speaking out.
I wonder why no political leaders have every thought to take advantage of it?

Because the way children are brought up in society will affect them as an adult. Ultimately, everyone has to come to their own conclusion on religion, but shouldn't kids at least be given a fighting chance against the immorality of the world?

It's fine to be againist rape and murder. Most non-christians are also against it. I don't understand why every single legal document has to say "God" on it somewhere or why prayers have to be said over the loud speaker before a football game.

I just found a question that I would like to yell and scream at church folks:
If God can be so apathetic, why can't you?
I'd like to hear a few answers on that.

Ah, but the Bible's teachings (especially in Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Ephesians) can help one lead a better, more efficient and satisfying life. Why wouldn't we want anyone else to experience that?

If you and your little friends don't like the "morals" Christians force on you, why don't you get together and vote in the laws you want?
Let's see - murder, theft, rape, white slavery, child pornography, assault, hate crimes, embezzlement, identity theft - which one of these that Chrisitans have helped make illegal did you want back?

Excellent! The people of Jesus' time called Him a sinner because He was seen with tax collectors. They looked for legal ways to murder Him. He taught that we should love one another.
