I'm currently living in Atlanta,Ga and I just can't take the racial tension between ALL races here (black, white, hispanic, asian and so on) Racism is so FLAGRANT it makes me sick to my stomach. My mother has re-married to an african-american and wherever we go outside of the metropolitan area we get "dirty looks" or "stares" from all people of all races. Is it that strange to see 2 people of different ethnic backgrounds together? I get the same looks when I'm hanging out with friends from different backgrounds,I do my best to ignore it,and at first it was entertaining, now it all just makes me sick to my stomach (the kind of sick that you used to get when you were a child and knew that you were in trouble or just uncomfortable) Is there anywhere in this country that people come together and aren't so segregated including neighborhoods and living situations? I want the city where 2 people of different backgrounds can hold hands and noone looks or thinks twice. Please help.

I'm just curious as to other people's opinions. Maybe some opposition... My idea of Christianity is that Jesus was a great humanitarian, who loved nature but had no divine origins. He exhibited great charity toward others. I also think the concept of the devil was created to blame for certain people's faults.
I believe we have souls that govern themselves. I believe we have bodies that allow our souls to grow, mature and differentiate between emotions.

I find that I do not like the 'preppy' people that are all popular. I am 31, lol and have my own kids. But even more so now than high school... I don't like these types of people. I feel very uncomfortable and feel like 'I am not cool enough'.. even at 31!!! lol I am a coutnry person and never did party or do those 'cool' things. I moved to a small town, am a single mom and I love it (people seem to think I should feel like a victim or something). I feel like these people who still party at my age and always were the 'cool' ones in high school... they seem to think I am weird for being a country girl and having my own style in life. I am very normal, but the people I know like this, sure seem to think that I am 'different'. Does anyone else feel suddenly uncomfortable around the preppy, city people that seem to think that they are 'in'? I am just wondering, because I can't seem to place my finger on what bothers me.

what can i do? no covens nearby (in costa rica, a catholic country) and the only people who might know something about it are foreigners and tourists,
even if a tourist is willing to help, he'll be gone soon
and foreigners are usually here to retire, and rich at that, or missionaries.

help! oh, and shipping books here is really expensive, no amazon account or credit card or whatever (hey, i'm only 13) and the only plausible way to get a book to me would be to e-mail my aunt and ask her to buy it and send it (my dad gave her money to buy and ship second hand books to us), and in that case, my dad would pick up the mail package himself (he always does) see the book, and ask me whats up, he's an atheist, i'm kind of embarrased to tell him i'm interested in this stuff, which he'll quickly point out all the arguements against god/s, ''religion is the opium of the masses'' tipe quotes, and all that. i know you can't hope to get a glimpse of wicca on the internet, but anything else? tha

"We must respect the other fellow’s religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart."

I would love to hear why you agree or disagree with it.

J.B.S. Haldane, an evolutionist, calculated (in 1957) that it was impossible for humans and chimps to evolve from a common ancestor over a 5,000,000 year period. This holds true even if there is a 98.5 % sequence homology as this would still require too many beneficial nucleotide mutation PER GENERATION. Since there are so many evolutionists on Yahoo "Religion & Spirituality", has this dilemma ever been resolved?

I just finished up a big project as an interior designer on a custom home. I want to send the project manager, assistant project manager and job superintendent each gifts to say how much I enjoyed working with them. All three of these individuals are male.

Any suggestions are appreciated, but please don't be disgusting or rude in your answers.

I was in the Royal Navy for many years.
At sea a religious service was always conducted by the Captain on Sunday mornings.
ALL the officers that were not working attended including friends of mine who did not believe..
Very few of the lower ranks attended.
It was well recognised amongst the lower ranks that officer promotion depended on compliance with certain traditions which included church attendance.

Is this Christianity, hypocrisy, intimidation or what?

This is the introduction to a new show, Taboo, on the National Geographic Channel.

"A boy endured 1000 cuts from a razor blade, earning the right to be called a man. A mother flattens her daughter's chest, so she will stay unmarried and remain in school. These are the rarely seen cultures and traditions of the world. Often misunderstood, because what's acceptable for some, is for others taboo."

Can you believe that crap being pushed on America and Europe. These cultures are not "misunderstood." They're understood very well. They're barbaric, repressive and tribal. If we can't stand up and say that scarring children as a right of passage, or disfiguring women to lessen their sexuality, is an evil act, then Western Civilization is doomed. Even worse is their hypocrisy. While these traditions are praised, praying in public schools is condemened. Can we stop these PC people in time to save our culture?

I am curious as to when the abandonment of the concept of Sheol took place, and what Biblical basis there was for Gehenna to be adopted in it's place.

Sheol was a place where everyone was supposed to go when they died, whether good or bad, and they'd remain there until Judgement day.

Gehenna was a fiery place of punishment for the wicked. It is what is equated with Hell.

To me, the concept of Gehenna seems to have been inspired by the Valley of Hinnom, a valley close to ancient Jerusalem. It was a place where the bodies of criminals and those who didn't receive a proper burial were left. This is also where the garbage was dumped, which was constantly being burned. Previously it had been a place of human sacrifice by the Canaanites.

This to me sounds like the concept of Hell - a fiery place where the wicked and go once they die. Was there a Biblical reason for the change in belief (divine revelation?), or did the people just adopt an idea they could relate to?

who do you think the scriptures are refering to in
Proverbs 8 :22 - 31?

Does this indicate that this would be the Son of God, Jesus Christ? (indicating pre -human existance)

At least they kept it out of the same section as Math and Science. I guess they almost did right just by listing religion and spirituality in the same section as myth and folklore but I still feel the two are on in the same. I would've put this in the polls section but considering the content....
