This is the introduction to a new show, Taboo, on the National Geographic Channel.
"A boy endured 1000 cuts from a razor blade, earning the right to be called a man. A mother flattens her daughter's chest, so she will stay unmarried and remain in school. These are the rarely seen cultures and traditions of the world. Often misunderstood, because what's acceptable for some, is for others taboo."
Can you believe that crap being pushed on America and Europe. These cultures are not "misunderstood." They're understood very well. They're barbaric, repressive and tribal. If we can't stand up and say that scarring children as a right of passage, or disfiguring women to lessen their sexuality, is an evil act, then Western Civilization is doomed. Even worse is their hypocrisy. While these traditions are praised, praying in public schools is condemened. Can we stop these PC people in time to save our culture?

Some good comments, and the usual cry of "racism". Fact is, most European cultures once had similar practices. It's called social evolution. I will call any culture that scars children barbaric and savage. I never said we could or should go into their countries and stop them from their practices, though they will never be able to compete in the modern world while they hold on to savagery (Micheal Vick, anyone?).
Who the hell brought up AIDS? What does that have to do with Western culture. AIDS originated in Africa, and is endemic in most European and Asian cultures.

Yes, tattooing has become popular in the west, as a resurgence of tribalism strikes our cities. I should say that when I was younger I got a tattoo, and I once had my tongue pierced.
The difference is obvious of course, to any sane person. These barbaric rituals are forced on children. In America, I don't think tattooing is legal unless you're 18. Anyone who tried to force someone to be tattooed or pierced would be committing a felony.

Lol, tell me what it is like to be closeminded.
In America the day modt kids turn 21 they celebrate by pouring tons of poison down their throats.
In America porn is a very big industry that consist of some very strange fetishes.
In America women have thier chests cut open and place things inside so they can look more atractive.
In America some some will not eat for several days or up to a week or just throw up or spit food out too remain thin.
In America boys entertain themselves by running into each other as fast as they can while trying to move a ball, put a ball in a hoop, hit a ball with a stick and run in a circle or stare blankly at a flashing screen for hours.
In America it is considered fashionable to color your skin with pictures (tattos) and pierce it (earings/ other parts).
In America 1/3 people end up divorced.
It is all in the way you look at it, but I am pretty sure this has been a waste of tiem and you will pick someone who agrees with you that everyone else sucks.
EDIT:
Lol, forced on children pushed on children....same thing......When children see something on TV or Movies and it looks good they think that it translates to real life, eating disorders, tatoos, piercings, Breat Implants.
We do not PUSH things to children in America we kinda sneak it on them, ahhh that makes us soooo much better.
I am not insane, it really is how you look at it.
And do you know why that girls breasts were cut off? So she would not be raped and be forced to raise a baby, so she could get an education. You think her moher enjoyed it? She had to disfigure her child. Motherhood is universal and no good mother no matter where they are from wants to hurt thier child. But sometimes they do what is best for them
As for the Razors that is probably egzagerated 1000 cuts would probably kill, but if it is something like 100 then that is just a soilder ritual. Once again survival a warrior has to deal with pain.
I am not justifying the disfigurement just saying sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to stay alive, we Americans sometimes have problems understanding this.
Feel free to e-mail me.

I don't think barbaric is quite the word, but yes these are disturbing practices. Frightening things like female genital mutilation is still going on in the culture of my very near ancestors, if I lived there my peers may have gone through it (though fathers are becoming more and more likely to object to the practice). The important thing to do is fight to end such practices without destroying the rest of the culture in the act. They are the result of a lack of knowledge (people circumcise girls so they will be more chaste, not knowing that leaving it intact is healthier). Yes the practices are terrible, but removing them doesn't take away an entire culture.

Your generally right, although the definition of disfigurement varies in different cultures. Ever thought that some societies may consider ear piercing and tattooing unacceptable disfigurement?

It's as important to be intolerant of evil as it is to be tolerant of good. This political correctness crap has to stop, you're absolutely right. The trouble is that society no longer has objective morality anymore. No absolutes. We live in an age of relativism where everything is theoretically ok if 'it works for you'. This mess has happened because society has turned it's back on God who is the benchmark and source of good. Without him, we slide into a quagmire of confusion.

Yes, because our culture is much less barbaric, isn't it?
To others, yes, these cultures may seem primitive, but I'm sure they believe the American culture is pretty strange as well. We repress others' rights just as much as other cultures do, but sometimes we do not do it so openly.

To YOU, their beliefs are ignorant, barbaric, repressive and tribal. BUT who exactly is asking YOU to adopt their ways? Oh wait, NO ONE IS.
Things WE do are barbaric, tribal and repressive to other cultures, like circumsizing our male infants, wearing clothing, working in cubicles instead outside in the good clean air, etc.
Trying to impose YOUR cultural morays onto other cultures is EXACTLY why most American Indians dislike whites - for taking away their lives, homes, and culure, all because heir moral and social system didn't fit that of white christian americans.
It IS a form of racism, that you say these things about their cultures.
Prayer in school should be condemned - as a formal practice, there is no place for it in our society. As an individual, private practice, pray where you will - just stop expecting the rest of us to cowtow to your standards of what is right and what is wrong,
You are actually ADVOCATING PC behavior - you want every culture to match up with yours, and not have their individual practices, beliefs, and lifestyles.
Well, if you want to get rid of the PC, then you have to suck it up and accept that they rest of the world is NOT going to act like the common white, christianized, middle class household.
And getting rid of the PC includes allowing me to tell you everything I just did.

As long as you understand that they may think the same about our porn movies and our AIDS. The fact that 50% of marriages in California end up in divorce. It is a 2 way street.

I couldn't agree more. The PC crowd screams for tolerance and understanding, except where traditional western values are concerned, then they dismiss every aspect of it as worthless and contemptible.
The multicultural/PC crowd are the most narrow minded, prejudiced group of bigots in our society today.
Unfortunately, since their control of the news media and education systems are almost as complete as was that in the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany they can spew their narrow-minded hatred almost unopposed.
Welcome to 1984.
