I'm currently living in Atlanta,Ga and I just can't take the racial tension between ALL races here (black, white, hispanic, asian and so on) Racism is so FLAGRANT it makes me sick to my stomach. My mother has re-married to an african-american and wherever we go outside of the metropolitan area we get "dirty looks" or "stares" from all people of all races. Is it that strange to see 2 people of different ethnic backgrounds together? I get the same looks when I'm hanging out with friends from different backgrounds,I do my best to ignore it,and at first it was entertaining, now it all just makes me sick to my stomach (the kind of sick that you used to get when you were a child and knew that you were in trouble or just uncomfortable) Is there anywhere in this country that people come together and aren't so segregated including neighborhoods and living situations? I want the city where 2 people of different backgrounds can hold hands and noone looks or thinks twice. Please help.

I spent 30 years in the NY/NJ metro area and my social circle included all races and ethnic backgrounds. We were bound by common interests and socio economic backgrounds. I think the more educated and progressive the area is, the less racism and intolerance you will experience. Unfortunately, racism and intolerance is present in all races and ethnic groups, you just have to find the circle of people with similar interests and values. Don't worry about the other folks! That's their ignorance and insecurity you are seeing.

Excellent question! -The best I've seen in a while.
The answer is NO! In no area where widespread racial diversity is common is there NOT deep racial tension.
In every area where minorities are concentrated, there is disappropriate minority on white violent crime. It is clear and very simple. Minorities and blacks in perticular murder whites at a far higher rate than whites murder minorities, including blacks.
Detailed crime statistics over the last 30 years are available and not even in dispute over this historical fact.
Jackson Mississippi before desegregation was voted the most peaceful American city, yet thirty years later it earned the distinction of being America's "murder capital."
There is no city in America where there is 50% white and 50% minorities where a white person can safely walk on the "other" side of town. -And that is why there is NOBODY stupid enough to say that in their town their is no racial tension. Where there is diversity there is adversity, period.
Perticularly the person above who stated "Minneapolis!" Ha Ha! Minneapolis is now riddled with minority gang violence and countless gang murders. The percentage of minority, gang-related violent crime in Minneapolis is up over 400% in the last 25 years. What kind of dreamland is that answerer living in?
Yeah, I like the one about northern Virginia too! That was real funny. Let me inform you of something: In northern Virginia there are far fewer minorities and fewer racial tensions as a result. Go to DC and see the black mayor smoke crack you'll see the cultural clarity.

In every land there are true Christians called Jehovah's Witnesses who know that God is not partial and love one another. At the Kingdom hall you will find every skin color of brothers and sisters who pray for the end of Satan's system of things when there will be no national boundaries and all lovers of our God and not themselves will live together in true worship free from Satan and his followers. You can find a Kingdom hall anywhere. The couples are mixed, the children are mixed, the grandparents are multi-racial and nobody really knows or cares where they come from. Only where they're going, which is paradise on Earth. The meek shall inherit the Earth. The wicked evil-doers will be destroyed FOREVER. (Psalms 37:10,11). Go on, read it. Go to www.watchtower.org

I'd say go north. I grew up in northern VA and racism was never a big issue for me there, it is very integrated. We were all as one sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on I-95 and I-495 and I-66.
But most importantly, realize that the people who are racist are IGNORANT and their opinion doesn't (our shouldn't) matter!

No where is perfect, but there are plenty of cities where racism is barely a problem. I just can't name them off the top of my head.

I think you can find non-racist people in all cities. You have to seek them out.
