We can draw closer to God by three principal means:
Bible study
Prayer
Fellowship with other believers
Like a three-legged stool, all three are necessary for balanced Christian growth.

I like the way you put it...."nurture and strengthen"...good word picture...you get a star for that!
Besides the obvious...prayer and Bible study...I think the most effective way to nurture your relationship with God is to serve others in His name.
I find that the more I focus on the needs of others, and do it not for personal glory, but in the name of Christ, the closer I feel to Him.

I constantly reflect on all God has done and let God know I'm very appreciative of this opportunity and gift of life. I don't just pray this, but rather I try to keep these thoughts throughout the day.

How do you strengthen any relationship? with communication. Prayer, Reading his words, listening for his voice. Worship God and God alone. Put nothing before him.

pray...Luke 18. My son told me; when I am troubled about something and I can not sleep. I get on my knees and pray then after that I can go to sleep. Sometimes the spirit is troubled within us and we find ourselves in prayer to God. His assigned angels come and minister to us in our sleep and we began to rest. Man does help but God directs.

just stop and read the stories in the holy books. they are just fairytales. tell me how do you get close to a fairytale. the giglimesh, is the oldest bedtime story for children known ,its over 4500 years old several copies exist today. its the story of noah and the ark. christians put it in there bible . then muslims came along and made him a prophet. tell me how many millions more have to die for the gods. the bible god says that stars hang from golden chains attached to the bottom of heaven. allah uses them to throw at jinns to scare them away. tell me how much stupidity is enough.

Just treat God as you would any other friend. The longer you talk to him and feel his love the stronger your relationship will be with him.

I would suggest to pray daily,go to Bible Studies and listen to god with your heart. Most of all find a church you feel most comfortable in.
