I have seen quite of few answers saying personal or private interpretation of the bible is allowed. Where are the verses that support this? The Bible says something totally different.

Acts 8:30-31; Heb. 5:12 - these verses show that we need help in interpreting the Scriptures. We cannot interpret them infallibly on our own. We need divinely appointed leadership within the Church to teach us.

Acts 8: 30Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. "Do you understand what you are reading?" Philip asked.

31"How can I," he said, "unless someone explains it to me?" So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

Hebrews 5:12In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!

...for whatever reason, manmade or natural disaster, do you think that eventually in millions and millions of years that we would evolve again and start all over like before? That is if you believe in evolution.

Plenty of examples on Y/A show that nothing can make a person angrier or more resolved than religious beliefs. Why can't devout religious believers accept non-believers for who they are? Why can't atheists let religious believers shout what they believe as loud as they want? I'm not sitting on the fence, as a liberal Catholic, my faith is personal and not something to share with others. I hope tolerance prevails someday...

I think it is because that they have been thought wrongly about giving they expect the return at every moment.

I mean, isn't it possible that Susan J reported her own death to get sympathy, only to come "back from vacation" into everyone's greatful arms?

Listen, I honestly don't care. If what Susan J is 100% true, it sucks. If part of what she says is a hoax, then whatever; some people have problems in life and it could be a real cry for help. Maybe she just needed some validation in her life; for which I wouldn't blame her. Or maybe she reallly is dead and this is just another layer of insanity.

All I am saying is that it may be wise to approach this whole deal cautiously.

If the real "Susan J" is back with us, for whatever reason, it's good news. But there is a tightrope we all must walk between safe and sorry.

Chicago Sun-Times

The Lutheran pastor soon to be bishop of the Metropolitan Chicago Synod wants his denomination to lift a celibacy requirement for gay and lesbian clergy.

"That's where I think the church is going," Bishop-elect Wayne Miller of Aurora, IL said. "That's where I think it needs to go."

He's hoping the change will come next month in Chicago, where the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is conducting its churchwide assembly. Nearly a third of the denomination's 65 synods are asking for a policy shift in clergy standards.

Eventually, gay and lesbian clergy in monogamous, same-sex relationships could be allowed to serve.

John Roberts of Chicago also hopes it could lead to the reinstatement of gay clergy removed from ministry. He says he was ousted as pastor of a Michigan church in the 1990s after he confided to his bishop that he was gay.

Okay, question: Why do you believe there is no "higher power"? How could the earth, let me change that, the Universe could be created out of nothingness. I myself being Christian also believes that there are holes in every religion , but let me refer to the big bang theory ... How could those several particles have created the Universe if nothing was to create them ...? I do believe that the theory of evolution is probable, because of coarse life will evolve when exposed to new environments. But science is not my religion, so please explain why you are not at least agnostic when you can't prove that there is not a god?

I have seen some on here that are very mean and cruel to Christains, and others who are great, have a lot of respect, but those of you who have a deep seated hatred, why do you have to be so cruel? you cant say because we are annoying, that wont cut it. most people who have such hatred of something, have much deeper problems than just being annoyed. so why take it out on us. we didnt cause it, we dont even know what your problem is. Maybe you should look at yourself and fix the problem before you give yourself a heart attack by blowing a valve or something.
