Who says that he's religious? And in fear of what?

This isn't going to be your favourite answer, I imagine, but I don't know ANY good preacher that keeps his flock fearful. I know several BAD ones that do, but of the many I know, none of the good ones do. That's because fear is a means of control. And good preachers, like good managers, would rather delegate than micromanage.

A bad President will do the same. Whether that fear is of terrorists, or of Social Security running out, or of WMDs, or of Liberals taking your guns away, or just the fear that the Rich aren't paying their fair share. Fear is, unfortunately, the primary lever with which the President is able to move the populace in the direction he wants them to stampede.

I don't believe either keeps us fearful. I don't believe we have ever had a very religious President (although Adams was quite religious).
Where did you get the idea that a good President OR a good preacher keeps one fearful? Fear is a tool of the devil.

I know what he means... And the only answer that I can give is: Why would you choose to be a sheep in that flock anyway? You have power over your own fear. No one has that control over you.

Fear keeps them on the edge of their seats. It also creates an environment that makes it dangerous to rock the boat.

NO good preacher does that. Fear does not equal love. Perfect love casts out fear. God is love. There is no fear.

Fear = reverence and awe when it comes to God.
