to make them resemble or harmonize with the teachings of the new testament?

an by atrocities I mean these;

1.God ordering the jews to murder man, women, and children of other tribes

Justification of slavery

Law condoning stoning

Law mandating murdering your own wife or daughter if
they decide to worship another god

Negative portrayal of women

Exclusion of the gentiles

Stoning of homosexuals

BTW if you dont believe me pick up your bible and read the books of Leviticus, exodus, numbers, deutoronomy.

you know you can justify anything. This is a very simple and common practice, but it does not make it right.

Think clearly for a moment. Can a loving god truly have his choosen people act in such savage ways. Regardless of the situations. You would think that God was above the shortcomings of man.

So do you ever get tired of doing it? be honest?
I did!

Paul was:

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

We ought to be also. Amen? Let NO man decieve you in vain conversation.

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. Romans 8:37
What things, Paul?
"....tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?" Romans 8:35
NOTHING can separate us from the love of our God.

There are always those events that you will remember exactly where you were, what you were doing, and what u first thought when it happened...

I was in my 11th grade class, actually watching the news as we had to do every morning. When the footage first caught in, i just thought it was a regular plane crash. When i found out what had happened, I live in Washingtin DC, so my first thought was, OMG, something really bigs going to happen here. My whole school thought something was gonna hit the white house or something.

So...Where were you? What did you first think about??

Why does someone want a sex change? To me this is being
a sicko.I think we are so blessed in the west that we fight for
gay rights and need money to change our sex.Why is it that
people in the third world don,t have problems with wanting to
be a woman if they are born a man .I think this money should
be given to children so that they buy bread not to sponser some sicko who wants to change his sex

With the majority of English speaking religious fanatics in the US i thought that yahoo would be a good place to ask this question, also isn't it crazy that most of the people the US is killing in this “war on terror” are just mirrors of themselves e.g. religious fanatics like George and Osama.

Paul talks about a women showing disgrace by not having her head covered in Corinthians chapter 11. Was this the culture at the time or something that was to be for all ages?

Paul also notes that women should be silent as that is what the Law states. Would this only apply to Jewish-Christians or also the Gentiles.

Would appreciate comments especially from any pastors.

you realized you weren't invincible anymore?

I'm 32 and it was last summer in a doctor's office when I realized that even I could get sick. I'm fine - but it was the thought that really snapped me out of that 'I'm young so nothing will happen to me' attitude.

As a senior citizen myself I see lots of OLD FOLK acting in a rude manner and who seem to expect and demand a level of service which they don't themselves put into practice.
They are especialy badly behaved to teenagers and others they see as beneath them

Why do Catholics have to go to priests to ask God to forgive them? Don't priests go to God for forgiveness? (Am I right? Please correct me if I'm not!) Why can't they go straight to God for forgiveness?

This is a serious question. If Catholics have the one true faith based on the salvation through grace, what happens to evangelicals.

If grace is truely received within and through the sacraments how can evangelicals be part of that.

I am trying to decide what church to go to but the issue is if evangelicals have wrongly interpreted the bible because of ignoring founding fathers and church tradition does it make sense to be part of that group.

I am leaning to think that Catholics may be closer to the truth but I have well meaning and loving evangelical friends who are really sincere and love God.

I have some concerns with catholic church as it can be impersonal.

i would welcome serious answers, i dont want any catholic bashing by immature and uneducated christians.

Lets keep it upright.

Do you like getting flogged if you stuff something up?

The suggestion that it wasn't like American slavery is missing the point.

Forced servitude is something that the society we live in is repulsed by.

So how is it somehow better in biblical times?

If you could go back in time, would you be happy to be a slave 2000-4000 years ago?

I'll post the links to the appropriate passages on slavery from the bible again
http://www.religioustolerance.org/sla_bibl2.htm
http://www.religioustolerance.org/imm_bibl.htm

These passages have directions for beating slaves and everything.

How can the bible, containing this stuff, be a basis for good morals?
