Do you like getting flogged if you stuff something up?

The suggestion that it wasn't like American slavery is missing the point.

Forced servitude is something that the society we live in is repulsed by.

So how is it somehow better in biblical times?

If you could go back in time, would you be happy to be a slave 2000-4000 years ago?

I'll post the links to the appropriate passages on slavery from the bible again
http://www.religioustolerance.org/sla_bibl2.htm
http://www.religioustolerance.org/imm_bibl.htm

These passages have directions for beating slaves and everything.

How can the bible, containing this stuff, be a basis for good morals?

Not all Christians believe that slavery was an okay thing, be it in Biblical times or not. Whether the slaves were treated nicely or not ought to be a moot point. The fact of the matter is that it's wrong to own slaves, whether they are treated right or not. But what, today, can we do about people owning slaves way back when? Not a thing. Why don't we focus on the slaves of today? Try to help them instead of arguing over something that we can't fix?

Who ever said slaves were treated kindly then? Anyone who knows anything about the history of slavery knows that VERY RARELY were the slaves in ANY era treated kindly........Even in the Bible, Moses saw an Egyptian taskmaster beating a Hebrew slave, and became so enraged that he rushed upon the man and killed him! No doubt in my mind, slavery is one of the most brutal things that can be imposed on a person by another! Just because the Bible speaks about slavery doesn't make it an improper source for developing good morals. Morality isn't what it's about; it's about salvation! There's more to salvation than going through the motions! It's about putting away the ravages of slavery, hate, sin and all human negativity wherever possible and replacing them with a RIGHTEOUS anger and the sense to let God have His vengeance on those that would wrongfully harm us. "Vengeance is MINE saith the Lord. I WILL REPAY."

Its not a basis for good morals, your premise is faulty

Once again - you're only going to get DENIAL from christians on the topic of slavery in Biblical times

No I don't think they were treated kindly. But I will still read the bible and worship the Lord. Someone said it best when they said for all non-believers "If for some reason at the end of times we find out there is no God we really haven't lost anything at all, but if we didn't worship him and there is a God you will spend eternity in hell." I don't know about you but I would rather take my chances being a Christian than not.

The wierdest apologetics on this was "we are slaves to christ"

The exodus 21:20-21 passage is freaky, and someone was argueing against me on leviticus 25:44 because it was a "mistranslation" and it wasn't "children" but "travelers from another land"

oh good, so its not children but people on vacation??

they dont get it

Any slavery is wrong and they can try to justify all they like, but it's wrong and deep down they know it is too, they are too ashamed to admit it

I don't see any of them wishing they could be slaves with good owners

read the new testament friend which is what applies to a believer today and you can see that all the teachings of christ and his apostles are good and true.
