Or just plain refuse to read the books?
It's FICTION, plain and simple. Next they're going to tell me that everything Aristophanes wrote also happened.

Because there I was on my deck midning my own business when my neighbor came by with a piece of mail for me. She saw that I was reading HP & the HAlf-Blood Prince and proceeded to lecture me for 20 minutes on the evils of HP and how God doesn't want me reading "that garbage." Which I found to be guite tiresome, especially when she shot down every counterargument I had.

They believe their pastor when he says the books were written by Satan and make people do black magic or some rubbish like that.
As for you neighbour just tell her it's nothing to do with her what you read.

For the same reason that churches fought against "The Da Vinci Code."
Both are just works of fiction They've never read the books and take some other Christian's word that they are either evil or works against the church.
I am a Christian, I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the Harry Potter books. And enjoyed the Da Vinci Code movie.
EDIT:
Jeen back when about the third HP book was released I was at a dance recital and overheard the grandmother behind me tell her conmapion that her grand-daughter had started to read a Harry Potter book. The grandmother told her Gd-daughter to not read it it was a very bad evil book.

CP,
I really do not know. I enjoy SciFi and Harry Potter movies. I personally see nothing wrong with reading or watching the SciFi movies as long as the person does not have to listen to some trashy language. Have a wonderful week.
Thanks,
Eds (A simple Christian)

there is an incredibly quote in the bible (someplace close to the front of the previous testomony i think of) that incredibly states that wizards and witches are all evil or something. in any case, the religion wack-jobs (i admire that description of them, btw) believe that a e book like Harry Potter is encouraging suceptible youthful little ones to end following the way of the lord and start up off following devil because wizards and witches come from devil and to start up preforming satanic rituals or something stupid like that. They use extremely wacked out good judgment to come back up with this yet it is the easy theory of it.

I'm religious (duh)....I hang out with religious people. Religion is my vocation and my life.
I have never run into a single person, ever, in my ministry or in my daily life, who hates Harry Potter for religious reasons. And I meet 1,000's of religious people every year (I'm a traveling representative for my Diocese).
As a matter of fact....everyone I know is anxiously awaiting their copy of "Deathly Hallows" from Amazon.com

Whenever the Bible mentions praying to or speaking with the dead, it is in the context of sorcery, witchcraft, necromancy, and divination - activities the Bible strongly condemns (Leviticus 20:27; Deuteronomy 18:10-13). We as Christian's shouldn't not entertain ourselves with such worldly possession's. i don't hate harry potter. i could care less about the books/movies.

Probably because they think the books are inducing witchcraft/magic to children.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is going to be released in five days.... I can't wait!

I don't think they hate it, I think they *fear* it, and those are two different things.
I have a friend who wouldn't let her daughters read the books because the church said not to. She wouldn't read them herself and form an opinion.
