It says that the Jewish people will outnumber the stars in the sky. This sounds like a perfect analogy an ignorant human would have made thousands of years ago. Today we know that there are billions upon billions of stars. We only have six billion people on this earth. When is this "plan" going to take effect?

We´re putting the cart before the horse, because we don´t have children yet, but were discussing this the other day.
We live in Germany, and since I don´t know the language, and am not Catholic, I told my husband we would probably have to take our child back to the States, and have it baptized in the Methodist church.

My tennis partner has started making comments about my physical appearance. Last week he said the muscles in my arms were looking nice and toned. I shrugged this off and told myself that it was nothing to worry about. Today he told me that by buns were looking nice and tight. I'm very concerned that he may be having gay thoughts about me.
I do not want a gay partner.

The catholic church has again stated that Protestant, Orhodox and other churches are not true churches, as they do not follow catholic doctrine or recognise the pope as head of all christians! What insulting crap!

As a member of the Ancient Church of The East, i find this grossly insulting. We are Aramaic speakers(Assyrians) whose church was founded in AD78, LONG before there was any christianity in Rome, and long before there was any organised WESTERN church, or catholocism.

In addition, the Orthodox and coptic churches in Syria, Egypt Armenia etc have traditions that go bah before the Roman/Western church existed.

Essentially this is a symptom of the Vatican's thirst for power.

The catholic church is neither historically, chronologically, theologically or morally correct in its assertions.

What say you? Are they right? Are they Wrong? Are they insulting?

I'm Mormon too but I don't know about this. Does the church believe in the Pope or something? what's the church point of view on him?

I used to be Catholic until I was 17 and something and converted to Mormon 4 1/2 months ago. I never payed much attention to the pope in all my years as a Catholic but I had respect for him and also admired John Paul but then with the new one, I don't know much about him but I still respect him anyways. :)

Thank you!!!!! ^_^

No evil no good. From the answers to this question that said there is no good with out evil-
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AnutraVyoVy5C5KzhvTi2tLsy6IX?qid=20070711133423AAgoPOR

And does there have to be evil for there to be good?

What’s good? Wouldn’t I enjoy horseback riding just as much without babies starving in (name the place)? Wouldn’t I get just as much joy out of being in love without there being a war somewhere? Wouldn’t I love to look at flowers, listen to music, and climb Mt Rainer just as much with out evil?
Why does there have to be child rape, genocide, hatred, and any other evil, for there to be love, joy, pleasure and any other good thing or feeling?

In my case the activities that cause me joy are made less enjoyable, Because of my feelings about the bad that's happening.

There seems to be a stereotype here on YA that religious=stupid. Here is the list of the top 10 universities in the country according to US News and World Reports (duplicate numbers indicate a tie) :

1. Princeton *
2. Harvard *
3. Yale *
4. California Institute of Technology
4. Stanford
4. M.I.T.
7. Duke *
8. Dartmouth College
9. Columbia University *
9. University of Chicago *

Schools marked with an * offer graduate level degrees (according to the Association of Theological Schools) to students who intend to pursue a career in some form of full time ministry, whether that is teaching, church work, or work in a non-profit. So, the top 3 universities, and 7 of the top 10, offer advanced degrees to religious people. (I am a student at Wake Forest University's Divinity School.)

How does this affect your opinion of the intelligence of religious people?

If you still hold the opinion that religious=stupid, how do you justify that opinion?

I am a Christian, and I feel like as soon as people know that about me they seem to judge me or automatically think I'm judging them. In Christianity, we are taught to judge no one, and to be humble, God is the judge. We are not to act superior, or be rude. Jesus said that love is the most important thing of all. We're supposed to love one another, if you read 1 Corinthians 13 it says what love is. Why do so many people act like their experts on Christianity and try to talk me out of my beliefs? Would they do the same to a Buddhist? Or someone who believes in Islam? People say that Christianity is ridiculous, but if you look at other religions, it's no more far fetched that anything else. Plus this teaches truth and love. Where is the harm in that? People are so afraid to believe because they think they have to give something up, God says come as you are. The change comes later, burdens are lifted. Why am I made fun of for having faith in the truth?

I am not commenting or blaming or imputing any group of people or any body but asking to know views of people.
IS it true that many times many people just see & ignore violation of laws by others until it affects them directly & personally????
IS it true that even many times many of them also ignore ill behaviour & wrong done with them; they don't take pains & don't go so long to get the justice ; they just try to forget or avoid the wrongs????
IF yes, what are the reasons of such ignorant & wrongful compromising behavior????
What do u all think about it?
Want to know your views ; by the way I live in India.

The new document -- formulated as five questions and answers -- restates key sections of a 2000 text the pope wrote when he was prefect of the congregation, "Dominus Iesus," which riled Protestant, Lutheran and other Christian denominations because it said they were not true churches but merely ecclesial communities and therefore did not have the "means of salvation." - Foxnews.com

Do we believe every guy that falls off a horse and says God spoke to him? And does being told "Why do you persecute my people" give you a mandate to start dictating church doctrine? what if Jesus just wanted him to, you know, stop persecuting christians, and get a real job? I'm pretty sure that there is no record of Jesus ever speaking to him again.

Shouldn't believers be revering the works ascribed to the original apostles instead of some latecomer?

For atheists who have studied the history of Christianity (the timelines, and the history of the developement of churches): Which church (denomination, etc) out of all that exist today is the closest to being the truest* Christian church?

*Truest: Lasting since from the beginning of the Christian timeline; without disappearing into history and returning again; truest in regard to the description of the church according to the Bible. Thanks.

I ask atheists & not christians 1) because I want a secular source that is a Little more likely to be unbiased toward any particular church, denomination, or religion.

As a proud englishman, I like slipping obscure and quaint english terms into the conversation while talking with friends for whom english is a second language (sad, I know). They love this, and always want to learn them properly to teach their friends. I'm starting to run out of good examples though. Can anyone suggest any more of these unique terms?

Phrases I've used so far include tally-ho, toodle-pip, chin-chin, ta-ta, cheerio, top-hole, what-what, blighty, balderdash and piffle, and jonny foreigner. That's the sort of thing I'm looking for.
