I'm Mormon too but I don't know about this. Does the church believe in the Pope or something? what's the church point of view on him?

I used to be Catholic until I was 17 and something and converted to Mormon 4 1/2 months ago. I never payed much attention to the pope in all my years as a Catholic but I had respect for him and also admired John Paul but then with the new one, I don't know much about him but I still respect him anyways. :)

Thank you!!!!! ^_^

The funny thing about this whole affair regarding the Pope's recent comments regarding the Vatican II is that after he dies, his name will be submitted for proxy baptism.

Now, that's what you call 'bittersweet revenge'.

Anyone that climbs through the Catholic hiearchy to be pope has to be admired. I don't think the LDS church has come out with an official view of the pope, but I respect him.

You heard the remarks President Hinckley made at the passing of Pope John Paul II, right?

The Church recognizes the Pope as the leader of the largest Christian denomination. He is a good man trying his best to guide people to Christ.

Mormons respect all good people who try to preach Christian values and good values in general. I personally think that the Pope, and anyone else who tries to make the world a better place for all should be admired for their efforts and respected for their contributions.

Well I don't know that the church has an official stance on the Pope.

I do know the 11th article of faith.
We Claim the privelege of worshiping the almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience and allow all men the same privelege, let them worship who, what or where they may.

I also know that we sustain Gordon B, Hinkley as Prophet Seer and Revelator and that we believe him to be the only man on earth to hold all the keys of the Kingdom of God, and the only man on earth authorized to be the mouthpiece for God and The only man authorized to speak for God and act in his behalf.

I believe that the Pope is a great man, and that he believes that he is teaching God's word on Earth. I believe that he really is a follower of Jesus Christ and wants others to follow Jesus Christ as well.

one thing I have always been impressed with in the LDS church (not all the people, but the church itself) is the tolerance it has for other religous people, authorities, etc. We may come to a point of complete disagreement in beliefs, but their will always be love and respect offered there by those members who truly understand that the ultimate response must be love - why spend our time jousting when our charge is to teach the nations; and, even if they reject our teachings, the love we’ve extended should never be withdrawn. Our ultimate response to those who suppose themselves our enemies must be love.

They think he is a nice guy, and they respect him, they just do not agree with all of his ideas.

I think he is considered a very good, pious man. I sort of think of him as the well-loved principal of a different elementary or middle school. Thanks for asking.
