"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."

Over and over again I see how people compartmentalize their beliefs and their morality and their jusitifcation and their self-image.

Over and over I see the extraordinary lengths to which people will go to justify their knee-jerk subservience to authoritarianism.

And I wonder why it should have surprised the world that so many Germans supported Hitler.

Every society breeds people to be hopelessly obedient to the powers-that-be.

Religion is but another tool, and one Hitler used as he climbed to power.

Are the vacuous answers we see too frequently coming from people who, in '33, would have thought Hitler was a "God-send"?

I'm being totally serious. My mother in law is very religious but I'm not sure what kinds she is so. She tells her daughter that God is more important than she is (her daughter) and that at her wedding she will not dance to the music.

What is this religion? Or are these man made rules?
I'm confused...

I asked a question a few minutes ago and as I was reading the answers, I saw someone had given lots of thumbs down to people, answers that were good, even.

I feel that giving a thumbs down isn't nice unless the answer is totally not relevant or inflammatory.

What do you think? Is it unnecessarily mean, or is it fun giving them out?

10 points for the first person who gets them all correct.

True or False?

1. According to Catholic doctrine, everything the Pope says is true.

2. The Catholic Church teaches that we can get into Heaven by doing good works.

3. Only Roman Catholics may receive Communion at Mass -- no exceptions.

4. Unless a Catholic married couple have lots of children, their marriage is invalid.

5. An annulment is really a "Catholic divorce." Only the terms are different.

6. The Pope can change Church doctrine.

7. The Catholic Church used to teach that Limbo exists, but doesn't teach this anymore.

8. Only unmarried men may receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders.

If you are faithful, you obviously don't need scientific proof. Shouldn't that be enough? Why, when pressed for proof of god's existence, can't those who believe simply say "I believe god exists and that is enough for me." The argument from a scientific standpoint usually ends up the same way:
Person A: "Prove scientifically god exists."
Person B: "Well, you say we evolved. We had to evolve from something. You can't have nothing and then get something. God created that something and the rest happened."
Person A: "Then something had to create god."
Person B: "God has no beginning or end and exists outside the laws of nature, therefore he needs no explanation as the rules do not apply to him."

Granted the conversation usually goes deeper and moe intelligently than that, but it always seems to end up that way. At one point science must cease in order to scientifically prove god's existence, so why bother trying to scientifically argue the point? If you believe, then believe.

I was just reading in Revelations about the new city, and that it shone brilliantly with the glory of God. It says plainly that the dwelling of God will be with men!

How could people like us ever have glimpse of a prayer of such things?

Why do we accept these people as prophets for claiming to have spoken to god, when in todays society anyone that claims this is labeled "mentally unbalanced"?

First off, this is NOT a rant. I am just wondering the purpose of blocking people that don't believe what you do. Talk about self-fulfilling prophecy, if you only allow users that believe like you do to answer your questions, then of course you can justify your beliefs.

Does anyone else feel the same?

We recently moved into a house. We are friendly people and like to get to know our neighbors. We like to know the people around us just to make friends but it's also good to know the people around you in case there is ever a problem (on their end or yours). We've met the other neighbors and their really friendly.

We have tried to deliver banana bread to the single woman across the street on two separate occasions; both times she's been home but didn't come to the door. Today when I came home she stopped pulling her weeds and went inside. (May have been a coincidence but I'm guessing not.) Should I leave her alone and assume she doesn't want to meet us or should I try again?

I was walking through a hotel lobby and there was a gathering of approximately 15 business men. After I checked in, the men were blocking the lobby and I had to walk through the "sea of men" to get to the room elevators. Smiling, I said excuse me, so they would move their luggage and I was aware they all looked at me. Some of them looked me up and down slowly and some looked up and down quickly. Infact one of the men gave me a third stare, when I was almost to the elevators Their actions were confirmed by my friend traveling with me. I was dressed extremely casual and comfortable I had on jeans, sandals, tank top, with an over sized open shirt over the tank top. It was also at the end of the day and my makeup was not fresh.

"Man Actions" are hard to interpert I know you women know what I mean Thanks.

I'm a muslim and i believe in all prophets, and i believe that Jesus PBUH is a prophet not God .I believe that there is no God but Allah and Mohammed is his messanger, and i believe that the bible was interpolated, and it is man made bible. 'i believe in the bible and in the Tawrah but not this corrupted one that you got ,but I believe in the one revealed to Jesus and Moses PBUT . the books you got now are revised by your highest eminent scholars .(could God's words be revised!!!!!) .Anyway,i'll accept the verses that you sent to me,and i'll answer all of them.First you said :"I and my Father are one". (John 10:30) .we need to understand this verse from it's context ,so read (john 1:23) and you will notice that Jesus PBUH doesn't mean that he is and God are one physically, but he means that they are one in terms of purpose and aim .
