free will means you don't have to follow them.
of course, if you don't there will be consequences, the same way there are consequences if you don't follow the laws of the land.

I'm sure most people on here have never read the Bible! The 10 commandments are rules for Holy living, but to be saved you have to repent and give your life over to Jesus, that's a faith of grace, so the laws are no longer the way to salvation. Free will comes into play because we have the choice to turn to Jesus or not, and once we are christians we have the choice to live according to the guidelines or not, which incidentally is why so many christians don't act like christians apparantly should.

You should probably learn more about something before you start asking questions or trying to criticise it. Abiding by the ten commandments doesn't save you. Believing in Jesus is what saves you. At least that's what the bible teaches. Whether or not you want to believe that is up to you though (Free will).

Free will (as defined by the Christian faith) is the ability to make your own moral decision, and then deal with the results or consequences of those decisions.
The 10 Commandments are rules to help you not make really dumb decisions so that you get yourself in trouble. That is why most day "Don't do this..." and "Don't do that...."
Salvation does not come from following those commandments, or any other works that you can do. It comes from a free will decision to allow Jesus to be the Lord of your life. When that happens, he causes the divine spark within each person (called the spirit or heart) to ignite with a new, eternal life.
However a person also has the right not to make Jesus the Lord of their life. But in doing so, they then have to deal with the consequences of that decision.

Free will is "your" choice to do as you want. No one can be saved by following the ten commandments. When we break just one of the Ten Commandments, we already broked all ot them. Salvation (saved) can only come through Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit that draws that person to the Father. Here is the steps to being saved (Salvation). (1.) Tell Jesus Christ that you believe that He is the Son of God, that He died for your sins, was crucified, died, buried, and resurrected on the 3rd day. (2.) Confess all of your sins to Him and ask His forgiveness of these sins. (3) Ask Him to take control of your life from now on and thank Him for all He has done for you, gonna do for you and what He has already done for you. Thats the only way one can be saved. Simple huh?

You do not have to abide by the 10 Commandments in order to be saved. In order to be saved, you accept Jesus and try to live as He would have you do live. You do your best to follow the 10 Commandements, but you will not go to hell if you slip up.

Who says we have to abide by the ten commandments? There is no 'saving' to be done as our souls/spirit/consciousness (whichever you call it) returns to Heaven or the spiritworld whatever we have done. God does not punish, nor does he judge, he loves us no matter what. So you see we all have free will to do exactly what we want to do, within the confines of what is accepted within the society we live in.

God has given free will to choose to serve him or the devil. Then if you choose to live saved the bible is instructions on how to do so. You can't lived saved buy your own rules and expect to please God. If God gave everyone there own way to make it to heaven then there would be no use for the bible. Then ten commandments are the basic sins that you shouldn't commit.

The commandments point us to what God requires- however- we could never keep them all- and God said if we are guilty of one we are guilty of all-
to be saved we need a Savior. We cannot save ourselves- we have to confess our sins and repent- and ask Christ to be the payment for our sins- that is what saves us- there is nothing good in us , apart from Him. I am loving the questions today on how to be saved!!

If you are relying on obedience to the 10 commandments for salvation you will never get saved. We are all sinners, all guilty of disobeying the commandments. It is only through accepting Christ's payment for our sin that we can be saved.

The 10 commandments do not save you.....believing in Jesus and what he did for you and accepting his forgiveness for the fact that he went through that for you is what saves you. You use your freewill when you chose to believe that or not.
