"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."

That is very well stated.

I am not an atheist (fan of intelligent people on both side of the issue).

Polite, direct. I'm coming back to look at the answers!

I think that he missed the reason why I dismiss all other Gods.

I KNOW the real one. All the false gods are either man made or devil inspired or both.

The Almighty God is self-revealing.

You would have to be determined to dismiss all evidences, every time, without considering them seriously, to conclude that there is no God.

More than 300 prophesies were fulfilled by Jesus in his life time. (there are hundreds of others fulfilled in other ways).

You can't convince me that they were written after the fact, because I know history and I know that they were all translated into Greek by the Septuagint Counsel ~400 years before Jesus was born.

The laws of probability demand that you pay attention to that. There is no way you can convince me that the Jews conspired to write a translation that validates Jesus messianic fulfillment.

Mathematical science demonstrates easily that there is no one else who can be Messiah and that those prophesies were fulfilled by one man in the first century. Probablistic method alone validates the existence of God.

That has to be the best comeback I have ever seen.

My high school biology teacher explained the idea of intelligent life on another planet this way: The odds of another planet supporting intelligent life are set at a billion to 1. However, since the universe is so vast, that means that 1 out of every billion planets supports intelligent life. Therefore, what should be an impossibility is actually a certainty.

Sorry, but I think Stephen Roberts does not really understand why I dismiss all the other possible gods.

What do I think of the quote?

It sounds savvy, but short on substance if you examine it in-depth, I am afraid.

I think that Mr. Roberts did not study the matter of the existence of the One true G-d deeply enough.

Arrogant ignorance.
