I work a 37.5 hour work week (one hour lunch--company pays for half of it). I'm at my desk from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but as far as how much time I spend actually WORKING--not much. Maybe on a REALLY slow day, about 30 minutes, and on a really busy day--about 7 hours.

Depends on the job
When I worked for GM it was 7 1/2 hours out of an 8 hour day so 37 1/2 out of every 40

Many people don't work 40 hours, though just as many work over 40hours a week. I know for sure, that the averages for France and Germany are lower than 40 hours a week, and they get alot more vacation time.
