I'll turn 40 this year, and have never been married. Close several times, but then . . . one woman cheated on me, another developed a drug habit, another became verbally and physically abusive.

I've done my best to be a healthy, confident, dateable man . . . but when people treat me like some kind of loser because I don't have a ring on my hand yet, it dredges up all those bad memories, and I become defensive about being single. Some even think that I'm gay because I've never been married, which certainly isn't true.

I really think I am a good catch, but have just had some really lousy luck. What would be the best way for me to respond to people who are insensitive and immature to me about the marriage subject? It wouldn't do any good to give a 3-hour story about all of the women who've wronged me.

If Satan exists and indeed has an "army" of helpers, I want to know how they "work"?

I am talking about people who are NOT proclaimed "devil worshipers". They are people who talk about God and pray at meals and bedtime. Yet they speak of evil and do evil things quite often.

I believe that these people are being taken without their will into this so-called "satan's army". I would like to know other opinions on how these people are influenced. And possibly how people (who also love God and do not worship the devil) notice these "devilish qualities" in these others and not feel as if they are being pulled constantly between good and evil.

How does this army work if there is one. I don't think they know they have certain jobs to accomplish such as angels do possibly...

Serious answers please... I really want some mindful opinions here... thanks !

I’m amazed at the mass amount bitterness that you religious/atheists are generating, you sound like the internet version of the middle east! So, what’s going to happen when the new JEDI religion takes off? Will we have a bunch of robe-clad wieners running around with light-sabers, hacking up people who disagree with The Force? This is precisely why we should not mix religion and science (mainly technology).

I just now found out about this soddy law-- the name of it, that is--from misreading a question about it on Yahoo! answers. I know that things going wrong in the world-- from African wildebeestes being separated from ungrazed pasture by a river full of crocodiles, to picnics being rained out, smiling psychopathic killers waiting in public toilets, so on.-- but just ascribed that the the universal "jungle" of the world in which human beings usually are better off than most from being higher on the food chain than other creatures. But it seems that defenseless humans are often helpless prey to natural disaster, illness, human and sometimes even animal predators. Misfortune and death happen to all at times, but it seems to me that men and women are capable of heroism and sainthood, lives of nobility and grandeur owing to the possession of basically God-like souls, proving the dominion of God despite the continued cruelty of the world. Discuss why you think I am right, or wrong.

I am a young man, and have been told I'm attractive. I've wondered at times though, because often when I ask girls out they turn me down, usually when I say the word "Date."

To me "a Date" is any time a guy and a girl are hanging out (or going out) to get to know one another better, no strings attatched.

All I can think of is that we, in the English-Speaking world, have forsaken other words that used to imply differant phases of male-female relationships.

Is there some stigma around this word that I'm not aware of?

I live in NYC, and every time I take to train to go to work, there's gotta be at least 90% of the subway trains filled with women going to work, only a handful of us men I see going to work. Is that situation going around the country, or even globally? What's the problem here? What do you think?

Honestly, like most scientific people, I'm always willing to change my beliefs in the face of genuine evidence. I'm opening the floor to any and all who can offer up reasonable, TESTABLE, evidence for the existence of a god/supreme being/creator. Please refrain from anecdotes (ie. "my mother, father, sister, saw him"), illogical reasoning (ie. because something complex exists, it had to have been created), personal opinions (ie. because "I" believe... think... feel, etc) and coincidence (ie. a bunch of people prayed and he miraculously got better.)

The evidence must be testable, repeatable, and logical. Please no "Post hoc, ergo propter hoc" thinking, and absolutely do not post scripture, as it will be ignored! (The Bible & other religious books ARE NOT evidence, since there is no way to investigate the authors' research.)

Consider this, your answers, if valid, could potentially change an entire segment of the populations thinking. Good luck!

First off I go to church and try to do right, now to my problem. I fell out with a friend of mine that was in church with me of 8 years, give or take some years. It is a long story but I don’t understand church. How can I go in feeling good and come out feeling mad? I am mad because of the actions/lifestyles of people. Young people sleeping around getting pregnant, getting drunk, getting high, backbiting, being two faced, criticizing everybody and then wanting to say I’ll pray for you. I am not perfect so don’t criticize me. I am a young single virgin and mad because it seems the more people I run into the more non-virgins I find, especially in church. Has anybody experienced the same thing and getting tired of church or religion in general? I thought it was supposed to be a different atmosphere than the real world.

Biblical references promoting female inferiority:
bullet1 Corinthians 11:3: "...Christ is the head of every man, and a husband the head of his wife, and the head of Christ is God. (NIV)". There is some debate among theologians about the translation of the Greek word "kephale" as "head." However that word is universally used in New Testament translations.
bullet1 Corinthians 11:7-9:"For a man...is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman but woman for man. For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head." (NIV) This refers to the practice of women wearing hair covering as a sign of inferiority. This is not longer widely observed today.
bullet1 Corinthians 14:34-35: "...women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says, If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church." (NIV) This is a curious passage. It appears to prohibit all talking by women during services. But it contradicts verse 11:5, in which St. Paul states that women can actively pray and prophesy during services.

It is obvious that verses 14:33b to 36 are a later addition, added by an unknown counterfeiter with little talent at forgery. Bible scholar, Hans Conzelmann, comments on these three and a half verses: "Moreover, there are peculiarities of linguistic usage, and of thought. [within them]." 6 If they are removed, then Verse 33a merges well with Verse 37 in a seamless transition. Since they were a later forgery, they do not fulfill the basic requirement to be considered inerrant: they were not in the original manuscript written by Paul.
bulletEphesians 5:22-24: "Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife...wives should submit to their husbands in everything." (NIV)
bullet1 Timothy; various passages: Conservative theologians date this "pastoral epistle" as having being written prior to 65 CE, and assign its authorship to Paul. Liberal theologians generally believe that it was written by an unknown author during the first half of the second century, a half-century or longer after St. Paul's execution. If the latter is true then the epistle's many passages reflecting female inferiority can be attributed to a gradual reinstatement of patriarchal authority by the early Church. Some of these passages are:
bullet1 Timothy 2:11-15:"A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent..." (NIV) Some Biblical scholars believe that woman and man should be replaced by wife and husband in the above passage. This would mean that the passage would not refer to women teaching men in the church, but rather wives teaching their husbands within the home. 5
bullet1 Timothy 3:2: "Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife..." (NIV) This would seem to imply that all overseers (bishops) must be male.
bullet1 Timothy 3:8: "Deacons likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere..." (NIV)
bulletTitus 1:6: "An elder must be blameless, a husband of but one wife" (NIV). Women are apparently excluded from the position of elder or bishop.
bulletTitus 2:4: "...train the younger women...to be subject to their husbands." There is no indication of equal power sharing in marriage.
bullet1 Peter 3:7: Women are referred to as "the weaker vessel" in comparison to their husbands
