Scientology is the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, universes and other life. Scientology means scio, knowing in the fullest sense of the word and logos, study. In itself the word means literally knowing how to know. Scientology is a “route,” a way, rather than a dissertation or an assertive body of knowledge. Through its drills and studies one may find the truth for himself. The technology is therefore not expounded as something to believe in, but something to do.

The church also sponsors numerous social betterment organizations that work to get people off drugs, rehabilitate criminals, teach kids how to learn, teach people right from wrong and fight for psychiatric reform.

Scientology teaches that people have a thrust toward the eternal, but does not have any specific dogma about the nature of the divine. People of all faiths can and do study and apply Scientology to improve their lives.

The aims of Scientology are noble. As expressed by L. Ron Hubbard the aims of Scientology are a civilization without insanity, without criminals and without war, where the able can prosper and honest beings can have rights and where man is free to rise to greater heights.

Scientology is an applied religious philosophy. When I say "applied" I mean you actually use it in your life to change or improve existing conditions. This is different from a religious practice. All religions if you learn about them have a basic philosphy, but they also have certain dogma, rituals and observances, and a certain faith or belief is required. There is nothing wrong with this, but Scientology is not that kind of religion. It does not intrude on anyones faiths of beliefs particularly in the area of God , the Supreme Being, or the Infinite. This area is left totally up to the indivdual, which is why you can be a practicing Jew,for example and still use and apply the priniciples of Scientology in your life. It does not conflict. If anything it will enhance your understanding of your chosen religious practice.
You can have no specific religious beliefs and still benefit from using it.
And it is only true for you according to your own observation and experience with it.
It is a non denominational religion . The dictionary definition that applies:
Religion: The spiritual or emotional attitude of one who recognises the existence of superhuman power or powers.

The most basic principle of Scientology is that YOU are your own immortal soul, that this is not a "thing" you HAVE but what YOU actually are.
The whole purpose of Scientology is to increase an individual's understanding and awareness of himself. And thereby his native abilities .
When you do this the sphere and zone of his positive influence increases and moves outward into his life, his family ,his friends, his groups and mankind which he is part of.

How this result is achieved is the "technology" of Scientology, which was developed by L.Ron Hubbard after his extensive research and the discoveries he made, about the human spirit. The basic religious philosophy and knowledge of Scientology is very old, going back 10,000 years at least to the Veda or Vedic Hymns from the East. The developement of the technology is new.
He completed his research before his death in 1986 and left all of his results and copyrights
to the Church of Scientology along with most of his considerable estate., when he died.

He published a book in 1951 to communicate the basic principles he discovered called: " Scientology The Fundementals of Thought"
There are currently over 8 million Scientologists in more that 150 countries world wide. However we are a new religion, only 55 years old.
The true story of Scientology as a religion goes like this:
1. A philosopher developes a philosophy about life and death.
2. People find it interesting.
3. People find it works.
4. People pass it along to others.
5. It grows.

Note the absence of any belief in aliens....... distant planets, or poop, for that matter.

That was a slander against Poop.

Scientology is a scam religion involving human relationships. Nothing alien in nature.

Mostly it involves separating it's adherants from their money. It's a pay-as-you-go thing that, the deeper you want to go, the more you have to pay for your "trainining" (brainwashing).

The leader's son or someone, I think, broke away and at great personal risk told how high-level dissidents were watched, hounded, even put to death if they were ever critical of the organization.

Every Hollywood scientologist is a FREAK SHOW, with the exception of John Travolta, who I think is a hell of a nice guy, so I can't figure out that part. But look at that idiot Tom Cruise.... scientology's poster boy can't even keep a marriage together for more than a few weeks. THAT says volumes.

Life has always been, and always will be. We, or any other animals on this planet, started as an atom in a gas cloud way the hell away from where we are now eons ago, but they are still dumbasses. Somthing more than chance sent us here. Who's not to say we are not aliens? You will never know until you actually see the end. I never want to see the end.

Fork over your life savings to the Church of Scientology, and you will know the "truth":

75 million years ago, extraterrestrial beings were sent to planet Earth by intergalactic ruler, Xenu, who then blew up the aliens with hydrogen bombs in a volcano (because molten lava just isn't enough to kill those pesky aliens).

The resulting explosion caused millions of alien spirits to be released into the air. The spirits were then trapped and brainwashed into believing in God and religion, Christ, Moses, Mohamed, Willy Wonka, and Sade.

Today on Earth, all the spirits of these aliens have attached themselves to our bodies, and are the root cause of all the false reality. These attached spirits are called Body-Thetans (or BT's).

In order to become cleared and get rid of those nasty BT's that are keeping you down, you have to be audited with a tool called an E-meter. To use it, you have to hold two metal rods in your hands, not in your mouth like Tom Cruise and John Travolta did during their first audit.

Sounds simply adorable, doesn't it? No wonder Tom Cruise loves them.

Scientology is a religion that has received a lot of media coverage lately. That is mostly due to the fact that some rather high-profile entertainers belong to the Church of Scientology. John Travolta, Kirstie Alley, Tom Cruise, Jenna Elfman, and Nicole Kidman are a sampling of these entertainers who have gone on record as being Scientologists (though Ms. Kidman later left Scientology). In fact, Tom Cruise recently made headlines by pleading the Scientology case before the German Government. The practice of Scientology is currently forbidden in Germany now. Given that Scientologists will tell prospective converts that they can continue to attend whatever church they wish, it is important to highlight the non-Christian beliefs of this cult. Furthermore, as one ascends into the high levels of training in Scientology, they find that this cult is anything but friendly toward Christianity.

Scientology was started by sci-fi writer L. Ron Hubbard, and evolved from his initial concept of Dianetics. The Scientology religion is based exclusively upon L. Ron Hubbard's research, writings and recorded lectures -- all of which constitute the Scriptures of the religion. These encompass more than 500,000 pages of writings, nearly 3,000 recorded lectures and more than 100 films. He is the only source of the religion, and he has no successor. A fundamental doctrine of the Scientology religion is that spiritual freedom can be attained only if the path outlined in these works is followed without deviation, for it is an intensively researched and workable route.

Scientology denies that salvation comes from God. As their website says: “For instance, although, like the Judeo-Christian religions Scientology affirms the existence of a Supreme Being and places the Supreme Being at the apex of its cosmology, like many Eastern religions, salvation in Scientology is attained through personal spiritual enlightenment.” Also from their website: “Scientology holds man to be basically good, and that his spiritual salvation depends upon himself and his fellows and his attainment of brotherhood with the universe.”

Scientology, like many new religions or those of eastern descent, releases people from personal accountability. They deny the existence of heaven and hell, and they deny the concepts of original sin and salvations by grace. In Scientology (which espouses reincarnation), each person must save himself by ridding himself of destructive memories and experiences that he or she has brought into their current life.

I could go into more detail if you wish.

Seems no better and no worse.
They believe in helping people, offer great courses, do relief work at disasters. Other than that their beliefs and who created them seem no worse than anyone elses. At least they are non-denominational (you dont have to give up any beliefs or convert to take their courses). From what Ive seen of ones I know, I think I like the results better than others. Even their most fanatical ones are nicer than any other fanatic Ive ever met.

It's an absolute CON.

Just remember that it is a cult (not a religion) created by a science fiction novelist. Those stupid and gullible enough to get sucked into this sham have to pay to be members. The rate is a percentage of their annual income and is very high so stupid millionaires are most welcome. But they don't mind targetting impressionable teenagers and "harrassing" them for years to try and rope them in.

Yeah, it's pretty messed up. Unfortunately I don't know too too much, but I do know that they say "whatever you believe about God, then it's true," which is the biggest load of malarky. Like, suddenly I just decide to think something, and then all of a sudden it exists? Get real.
