Yes, John Paul did die, but the Catholic church cannot be without a Pope. John Paul was very beloved by the people. Immediately after he died the Conference of Cardinals voted and chose another Pope. They had to. It has been this way since the beginning of the Catholic church. If you do not recognize Pope Benedict as the Pope, and you are Catholic, your parish priest may have something to say about that one! Perhaps you should talk to him about it in confession.

First, Sean Connery was the best Bond, tyvm!
Second, Pope is a title. He is the elected head of the Catholic church.
And for all of those "Nazi" callers, Pope Benedict XVI was a member of the Nazi Party yes, because anyone getting a higher education had to be. He was drafted into the service but never fired a weapon in combat. My understanding is he deserted and surrended. I might be wrong, but I am pretty sure i saw this on either Discovery or History channel.

Cardinal Ratzinger is not an actor. The man who was elected to the office/responsibility of the Bishop of Rome is now the "Pope".
Cardinal Carol passed away around Eastertide, and his office has been passed on to another. The same thing happens to Presidents, Kings, Queens, and Prime Ministers. It is a person that has passed away. The office remains.

Popes only last about 10 years or so on average ... there've been over 200 (I believe) during the history of the Roman Catholic Church.

Give the guy some respect. He was forced to be a nazi. He had no choice. I'm sure he didn't decide to be a nazi. He was in Germany at the time, and everyone HAD to serve in the nazi army (or whatever it was he served in.)
So STOP CALLING HIM A NAZI!
