I need to write a paper on something that I percieve to be deviant. This doesn't have to be something that is illegal. Also it doesn't really even have to be something that our society considers to be deviant. The idea is that deviance is "in the eye of the beholder" so to speak.

Have you any examples? It could be anything from picking ones nose to child abuse. But I would rather try and come up with something that isn't already regarded as deviant.

Thanks guys.

You know the more I think about the meaning of life, the more I tend to think it's not really the precious gift were always told it is. I think it's more of a lucky break. I mean we all could have been aborted by our mothers. Our potential lives could have taken like that. If we didn't exist would it be that big of deal. A baby can live and die within the exact same ten minutes of its birth. I'm 21, I haven't done anything of impotance with my life yet. If I die tomorrow, will I be that big of a loss to this world? Won't someone else just take my place and do what I suppose with anyway? I mean yes there's emotional baggage for those who we left behind but were gone. The world will keep on going no problem. Is life a precious gift? or is it just a stroke of luck? Are we here to enjoy and the treasure the experience? Or steal just from it what we can, until our time up? For me it ALL comes back to one question. Are we as humans important to this world?
AND YES, I'LL SEE A THERAPIST!

Do you think racism only applies to those that show hate towards another race?
It sounds like a stupid question, but I am begining to think that alot of comedians and their socially accepted racial "jokes" can definitely be considered racist. They put forth jokes (I do find them funny) about races, including their own, at an outrageous clip and we laugh and see them as jokes. At the same time I think they are only reinforcing the stereotypes of old. These continued jokes can become the way a person thinks, especially minds that are easily influenced. Does anyone else feel this way?

A friend told me that in the South a white didn't mind a black as a neighbor but didn't want him having any political power or status in general. However, in the North the whites didn't mind blacks having power in there own caucuses but didn't want them living in their neighborhood. It sounded strange to me, is it true? Any links to support this?

Maybe it's just me but I heard it said a few time that one should not confuse prejudice with discrimmination. As I look at these two words the dictionary indicates at least to me one is acted up on while the other is a formulated thought. Both words as I see it are from the same root.
Defined words:
-----------------------------------
Predujice
1. an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason.
2. any preconceived opinion or feeling, either favorable or unfavorable.
-------------------------------
Discrimination:

1. an act or instance of discriminating.
2. treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit: racial and religious intolerance and discrimination.

Just wondering which race does more violence for racist reasons in your opinion? Try and answer independent of your own race and answer fairly.

..a 'duck turned swan'?

Ive been considered ugly for most part of my life. I sang a popular song at school at the time and a girl scolded me and went 'eww, hes singing my favourite song, yuck'. Been told im too skinny, hair too geeky and even be 'who would end up marrying the loser (me)' in those bottle spinning things. Wow, it sucked, but i got used to it.

Then, puberty came. I got stronger and looks changed and girls started noticing me. The girl above also started liking me and said that my hair nerdy and didnt know i was hot beneath it.

Needless to say, hot or not, ive been shaped (or scarred?) too much by the past. So, I try my best to be a nice and decent fellow after seeing how badly people treat others due to looks. Im rather introverted as a result, and i still find it hard to deal being me. I blush when complimented, etc. Im no wuss though.

Has anyone else experienced such a thing and did it shape your life? Does it affect people's view of me being like this?

i volunteer at this big tourist attraction downtown and i talk to people everyday asking them this stuff and its always interesting to speak with them. im african american, 18 years old.

im already expecting ignorant generalizations about americans but you know that comes with the territory.

how i see my own country: this bipartisan government gets annoying because all the wealthy white politicians do is run after each minority making empty promises to secure votes; bush and the current government in general kind of suck.im kind of bitter toward older americans because they tend to be very conservative, make up most of the country, and voted this monkey into presidency twice.

culture - i love the gist of american culture today - very liberal and casual. while i respect more formal strict cultures, i think id shoot myself if i had to dress a certain way by law or couldnt laugh, joke, be loud with people in public. i could write more but just answer the question!! lol

Ok I have an older friend that is 10 years older than me. She was my math college teacher and we became friends. We only talk through email b/c we are not that close yet but anyway..she just had a baby a month and a half ago and she has invited me over to see her already. Well I got her baby a present out of generosity.. (I have already gotten her a baby shower present which was an engravable picture frame that was expensive!)..but I was shopping and saw some cute outfits so I decided to get them just because. I have been trying to give them to her and I ask her in email when I can come by and give them to her but she either doesnt answer me sometimes or like the other day, told me to come over in email, but then called me later and said her AC wasbroken and being fixed, and to reschedule for next week. This will be the 3rd reschedule already. Do u think she will reschedule AGAIN next week for the 4th time or do what she says, which was to email me and tell me when to come over?

I recently started a small website writing about an interest of mine. After making a few bucks when people clicked on my links, I began to have visions of a day where I would eventually cash in big. Even though this vision was a pipe dream, the cash I made from it destroyed the enjoyment I once drew from the experience.
