too many hate full people with little or no insight. Why should you offer mercy when you like to hate? We hated the Indians, we hated the black people, we hated the communists, we hated the homosexuals now we hate the terrorists and the pedophiles and other criminals, no matter what they have actually done. If their bad actions is not bad enough, we will in our minds create it more bad so we can continue to hate.
How can there be room for mercy it would destroy your hate?

People, especially in western countries, tend not to become close to others, whether they are in trouble or not.
We are becoming a more individualistic and less carfing society.
