Sociology - September 2007

[Selected]: All categories Social Science Sociology

Please consider the question carefully before you answer and don’t just look the three pertinent words up on some online dictionary (although that might be a starting point).

The question is: What, in your opinion, is the difference between racism, xenophobia and homophobia?

Is one more reprehensible than the others (or, indeed, one/any of them reprehesible at all)? Are they separate phenomena, or merely separate points on the same cotinuum? What is your view? I ask this because I’ve just watched two, profoundly moving (for me), documentaries back-to-back on TV.

I aopologise that I’ve posted this question under more than once category, but I think this is applicable to more than one subject category.

Cancer, birth defects, diseases and all other awful things like that. Too much to name! Are these things products of Evolution? Didn't Evolution cause these things to exist? I was having a conversation with someone the other day and he was telling how evolution was this perfect, flawless thing. And that just hit me. How great is Evolution really? Disease's, cancers, brain tumours, birth defects, MS, the knowledge to kill, hurt ect. Aren't these also products of Evolution? If Evolution was perfect, why would it create such flaws?
Now I don't know too much about science, and this may be the dumbest qustion ever asked. But I'm just curious. Thoughts.

What ever happened to.............We the people of the United States of America.........................................................have the inalienable rights to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
I think that life and liberty are still possibly adhered to but what about the pursuit of happiness. Do we think that we have the right to instant gratification or do we still understand that we all need to pursue happiness for ourselves in a lawful and moral community.

Has the "Great American Dream" been fractured and slipped out of sight?

this is a perverted world, full of evil totalitarian ideologies invented by corrupt politicians and awry sociologists. Where called to task about their abnormal thinking these people even deny that there is such a thing as 'normal'. Should we weed out these people and restore society to a state of normality.

I have moments when I noticeably exude confidence, but when i fail at something it takes it down a notch. I do pick myself up again time and time again I never quit, but I want to just get it right. But, pretty soon I may quit cause it never turns out well. To be more specific I naturally dont do well in social situations, so I "act" like a person who is comfortable in social situations. Now this works for a few days, but then falls apart because hey I am not naturally great at social situations so I can only do so much. How should I go about this situation? I am going to call it quits soon

so inextricably intertwined that poverty is a crime and great personal wealth is the ultimate good. Can we do anything to change this or don't we want to try.

I always thought it was oure bulls h i t.

As long as both people are single what's the problem. I always looked at the two equal. What's wrong with a woman wanting to be sexual the same way men do.
