Time is a cultural product, hence a social one. Two quick examples are the concepts of monochronic and polychronic time orientations. Monochronic is a very linear view of time, normally noted by punctuality and clock watching. It is the main stream for most of America. However, polychronic orientation sees time as almost circular and nonlinear. Two O'clock will come after completing what is needed at one. Thus if your done by 230 polychronic people will arive thirty minutes late and not feel as though they offended because their orientation says that 2 is when I'm done with what I was doing. This time view is called in slang "Indian Time". This concept is found in a variety of cultures from Arabic to Asian to American.
